are you a fan of the original's "story"? Most people weren't back then either.
hey... dont make fun of my avatar. a wrench is a good useful tool. you can tighten loose screws with it, and you can bash someone's head with it.
i'm no lemming, trust me. i'm a student of films. i watch films and read about films religiously. and in all those time i've come to learn to appreciate reviews, and i meant reviews by reviewers who know what they're talking about, not just some 'fanboy' reviews in some internet forum who are clueless about filmmaking. and it is in my experience that when reviewers are almost unanimous in saying a film is so and so, it is usually right, for me.
but of course, you can make the crappiest film ever, and there'll still be people that think it's actually great cinema.
sorry i thought you were directing the question to someone else. i liked tron when i first watched it as a kid. now i cant remember anything from it, except maybe for the lightcycle scene. i honestly cant say if i see it again today i will like or not. i've been trying to find the dvd to watch it again in anticipation of the new film, but here in my part of the world finding old films are not easy.again, do you like TRON? It too was panned by critics. Most sci-fi movies are panned by critics.
what difference does it make? did tarantino go to film school? So not a film student, but a student of films?
So you're not in film school?... more like a fan of films?...
no no no. there are art and there are turds. that's why you need to learn the "know-how" - so you can tell the difference. it doesnt come down to just whether you like it or not. there are such a thing as a crappy film, and if you happen to like it, then that means you have a crappy taste in films. it's that simple.Besides a LOT of reviewers lack the context of the movie,
you might call it "unbiased" but it might be uneducated instead...
Cinema is an art, and like all arts, despite all the "know-how", it all comes to wether you like it or not...
This movie is obviously not for you...
what did i say:Pablo Picasso once said:
"Good taste is the enemy of creativity..."
It's funny how you don't believe in film schools,
yet your point of view about the art is "by the book"
Indeed there are crappy films, I've seen plenty of those,
but I am sure it's not Tron's case...
Now, what if a well respected reviewer doesn't like Tron, and another one loves it?...
What do you do?...
when 5 out of 10 people say it's not poo, then you at least have a 50/50 chance to enjoy a chocolate cake.
i dont need my action films to win oscars. they just have to be great action films, by action film standard. you guys are really getting stupid with each new statement you're making, you know that? While you list a few movies that may have transcended the sci-fi genre, the sci-fi genre is more often than not filled with Planet of the Apes, Tron, District 9, Serenity, Stargate, etc. Many more films in the sci-fi genre are MUCH MUCH WORSE.
None of those films I just listed are putrid crap, but they certainly aren't winning Oscars for best film either.
If you're looking to base your toy purchases on the greatest films of all time instead of films you personally enjoy, then your selection of collectibles is going to be quite limited. They typically make toys that focus on sci-fi movies or other genres that typically have cool designs. Like I said, "A Beautiful Mind" didn't spawn a whole lot of licensed product.
whats there to risk? Its three friggin days. Or are you saying you aren't going to even see the movie?
If you can't be bothered to see the movie despite a few reviews, then you probably should never had this figure on your radar at all.
I for 1 am waiting until the movie comes out and will be making my own evaluation based on what I see. Shoot, most "movie people" hate the original TRON in the first place, but I love it, so I don't care what anyone says.
The quality of the story doenst affect the quality of hot toys figures, the design of the film is amazing, if everything else sucks so what. the lightcycle will still be a fantasticly designed piece, i mean why do people continue buying xbox 360's, when they brake all the time, it because they look nice.
hey guys, does anyone here know for a fact whether ht will be making a 2nd lightcycle (orange, with clu figure)?
i've been thinking about this, and if they are making that one, then i'll pass on this sam flynn version. cos bad guys are always more interesting. plus the orange colour is cooler!
uh oh...
good visually, but great it aint, apparently. brace for impact.
As a big tron fan I have waited many years for this film to be made. Previous attempts were shelved, mostly by the original director due to respect for the script of the original and fan base, to deliver a good sequel.
The fact that lisberger is involved and jeff bridges and bruce boxlightner, also encourages me, I'll be satisfied with the result.
From the trailers I am 99.9 percent sure this film won't let me down.
Hot toys I am not so certain about, from the early pics, that looks nothing like sam flynn and hope they sort it out and the price, as that hurts my pocket.
I agree having an orange clu on a lightcycle would be far more interesting and hopefully it will be confirmed.
If this does well maybe the original cast figures will follow but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
