Dude HT has the best painters on the 1/6 market, how can they not do better than this on some mouth plates?

Because, dude, these men and women are not spending six hours painting each plate. They are expected to paint good enough, fast enough. I wouldn't be surprised if they get paid by the piece. Obviously, the more pieces you crank out, the more you get paid.

Yeah but these Toys are not painted by people, the paint jobs are printed on. That is why they can make 1000s of them within a short period of time.

So what are you saying then, more room for error? I think with the technology Hot Toys has they should be able to make it look as close as the proto as possible. I mean most of their figures look pretty much the same. Maybe they just have a problem making face plates for mass production.

You think these are bad? Can you imagine if A) these were made in the USA or Europe and B) how much they would cost then?

I'm saying that Chinese workers make NOTHING vis a vis their Western counterparts. Then there's rules, regulations, laws, taxes, etc. For instance, a teddy bear that costs $20 to make in China costs over $100 to make in Germany.

Don't know why were arguing about this, these mouth plates for a 300$ figure should be good at least compared to the proto.

Some things are painted by people like for example the weathering of the shoes on the DX01 were done by hand because they dry brushed them. However, face plates are all printed on.

I am pretty sure that is just a marketing technique to persuade people that these are painted by hand. The paint jobs on Hot Toys head sculpts mainly consist of decals for eyes and freckles and the shading is printed on. I don't know if anyone remembers how pissed off collectors were with the DX11 because you could see the matrix dot pattern on the head from where the machine printed it on.

It's probably some combination of the two. And I'm sure HT is not about to spill its secrets.

What I'm saying is that a figure of similar quality would likely cost a lot more if it were manufactured elsewhere.

As to why the production pieces don't look like the prototypes, it probably costs too much. So they take shortcuts. Or the very best head painter handles the prototype and a whole team of workers handles the production pieces.

That's just ****ing stupid! There's no point in doing it if your only going to do a good job on the proto and a ****** job on the real product.
They should charge less if they're not even going to try to make it look close to the protos.

Probably, but Hot Toys use to be known for their final products looking practically identical to their prototypes. So the fact that they are taking shortcuts now in order to produce a lower quality figure as far as likeness goes, is heading towards the direction of damaging their reputation IMO.

Not to mention this character is known for his lower mouth likeness since he's helmeted, they should be trying harder
with the mouth plates then.

If you are unhappy with their product, what are you going to do? This is not Hot Toys 2006. They are no longer trying to make a name for themselves. They've practically bought up all the licenses people give a damn about.

If you don't want to plunk down $300 for a figure you consider subpar or substandard, don't worry, thousands of others will.

Hmm that's true, I don't know why it is so hard for Hot Toys to get mouth plates right, when EB did it so easily.
