Sort of hard to have a full discussion of Starlord's look and character without including the source material. And, like it or not, that source material has been around for a while.
It's unfair (and totally inaccurate) to dismiss the Starlord character as a marketing gimmick for girls. Doing so shows a lack of imagination, as well as a lack of knowledge of the character's history and a disregard for the character's journey. Might as well dismiss any and every female comic book character as eye candy for horny pubescent boys. While it may be true to an extent, there's far more depth to today's comic book characters than your remarks would imply.
