That's an easy out -- QR is non-linear, non-uniform and wholly unpredictable. It's a get-outta-jail-free card.

Eh, that's just lazy writing, but to tie it back to the Cap shield scratch argument, these movies can be very inconsistent in their physics and everything, so it's really a moot point to debate the specifics lol.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Tony in EG say that he fashioned him a new shield? I thought he said “I made it for you.” But even if he didn’t, could just be that Tony cleaned and polished it up, hence no scratch marks.

Even if they did include the scratch marks, either way, I don’t see how it’d be a plot hole. No more than a plot hole than not having A1/2012 Cap’s suit battle damaged, which wasn’t a plot hole at all. Continuity error, but didn’t detract from the plot.

Yes, that’s what I remember. I think Tony also joked that he didn’t want to have make another one.

I thought he said, “He made it for you.” As in Howard.

That’s not what I remember, but I could be wrong. My memory isn’t as good as it used to be. [emoji2369]

He did say that. It was definitely meant to be Tony amending his final words to cap at the end of civil war.

As an aside, I love those little dialogue nods they put in for the people that have seen the movies 14,000,605 times.

Stuff like Wasp saying "we're on it cap" in endgame and the shared look between her and ant-man. She says that after having made fun of Scott for calling him Cap in their previous film.

Is my recollection of Tony joking about not wanting to make another one incorrect then? [emoji848]

I’d have to watch it again. I was almost certain that on both viewings I saw, he said “I.” Which was why he jested to keep that fact on the down low being that he didn’t take the time to make one for everyone else.

I've watched it 4 times now and I heard:

Steve: "Tony, I don't know"
Tony: "Why? He made it for you. Plus, honestly I have to get it out of the garage before Morgan takes it sledding"

I said it would be cool if the scratches were still there because It never once occurred to me that it could be a new shield Tony made and not the same shield he took at the end of CW because that makes no sense. I guess we'll just have to wait until we get subtitles to find out for sure.

Yeah... don’t recall him saying that during my 5 viewings ha He told Cap after Thanos destroyed the compound, “If you lose that again, I’m going to keep it.”

Maybe that was it. I seem to remember Tony saying he made it and making a joke about not making more...but I could be wrong. I only saw the movie once and my memory sucks.

As far as I remember you are correct.

That sounds right. I remember some sort of snarky Tony response like that.

Tony said to keep it quiet because he didn’t bring one for the whole team.

In Homecoming, one of the items Happy calls out for on moving day is the prototype for Cap's new shield (along with Hulkbuster and Thor's magic belt).

It's possible Tony was working on a new shield for Cap, whether just to replace the damaged one in Civil War or a new design entirely. He knew there was a chance they'd be fighting together again. He carried the flip phone with him, after all.

I've seen Endgame several times and always heard Tony's line as "I made it for you." But I went through several different clips of the scene online just now and it's not enunciated clearly so it also sounds like "he made it for you."

I like the idea of Tony having made Cap a new shield since that's symbolic of reforging their friendship. But if it's the same shield, it looks new because I'm sure he cleaned it, filled the scratches, and repainted it.

Yeah. That’s a great nod. I also like Black Panther saying “Clint! Give it to me.”

A bit of a contrast to saying, “I don’t care.” in Civil War when Hawkeye introduces himself haha

My thoughts as well regarding making him a new one. But even if he just cleaned and polished it up for him to make it look brand new, it conveys the same sentimentality.

He said "he". Period.

"I made it for you" doesn't even make sense in the context of the conversation as a whole. Tony hands Cap the shield, who hesitates and says "I don't know..."

Tony is not then going to say "I made it for you" because no ****ing ****. Like he would make a Captain America shield for Ant-Man?

He also then goes on to say "I have to get it out of the garage before Morgan uses it to go sledding" implying it's been there a while. If he'd just made it, he wouldn't refer to it like clutter taking up space in the garage.

And furthermore, why would he make a new, identical shield when he still has the one he took from Cap 6 years earlier?

"I made it for you" simply doesn't hold up, whereas "He made it for you" carries enormous contextual weight re: their relationship.

I assumed he meant the one we seen Tony level his particle accelerator in Iron Man 2.
