What's fair would be to literally ignore race/sex/ect. altogether and have a system based on merit where everyone is praised and criticized on completely equal grounds without a single regard to external characteristics.

Not saying you’re wrong, but my last comment wasn’t meant to be taken seriously.

The problem is that the existing system doesn’t work for everyone, because no one is on exactly the same playing field for various reasons, be it economic, genetics, cultural expectations or personal priorities.

Silly example which I brought up before, if entry were totally based simply on merit Ivy Leagues would be completely saturated by East Asian students, even more than it already is. You can just imagine the outcry against that by the other groups as it were, including the white majority, which is why they make it harder score wise for Asians to gain entry. To allow for more equal representation.

Here in Australia we had a politician who railed against Asian (Chinese & Indian etc) immigration in the 90’s From fear that Asians were taking all the University positions and high paying jobs. And you know what she was right, if you go to the 3 main Uni’s in Sydney you would think you were in Asia on vacation, or if you go to see a doctor or dentist it’s very much the same thing.

Unfortunately not everyone is built the same and sometimes the playing field has to be leveled a tad, to ensure that everyone has a chance as long as they put in the effort.

But this is getting too political. Time to go back to critiquing the film.

This is the same sort of c r a p spewed by people who can’t handle the Doctor being a woman at the moment. Apparently Jodie hates white men too! I bet Daisy Ridley hates white men too! I bet any woman who leads a show or film they like hates white men too.

Brie said she wanted the press reviewing the film and attending the junkets to be diverse and not just white men. There is no insult in that at all. Why shouldn’t it be diverse?

By being angry at that, it says a huge amount about someone’s world view.

Right wing white males think they are entitled to everything. They hate the thought of diversity because it means less stuff for them. It shows how dishonest and shameless those angry white males are that they would constantly repeat a lie even though they know everyone can search for and find the exact quotes. Everyone knows she never said anything about not wanting white males from seeing the movie. That won't stop these lying white males from constantly repeating that lie.

That’s the thing, they know their audience won’t for the most part expend any effort on research (google). Unfortunately many people (left/right) will only listen to a few commentators and that’s their only source for ‘news’, and anyone who says different is either a liberal something, or a right wing something. Truth doesn’t matter anymore.

Because if people were willing to do the minimal amount of research on any topic, they wouldn’t continuously be taken for rides on any number of issues. People as a whole are just too gullible or just plain lazy.

Yeah let's do nothing about existing racism. Anything done to stop EXISTING racism must be bad and must be avoided at all cost. Basically the disease complaining about the cure. The hypocrisy is this type of disease can be easily stopped by the people perpetrating it but they won't thus a cure needs to be applied from the outside. Of course they people who want things to continue the in the same discriminatory fashion won't want any change and will try to pretend to be reasonable while arguing against every possible solution.

Obviously diversity is a good thing but when it is forced i.e. favouring people of a certain ethnicity due to nothing but their skin colour is when I have an issue. Is like when employers favour minorities due to them having to hit a percentage quota. You can't lump everyone together and say all who disagree with brie larson is an angry racist male

I'm still not really sure what the point of the cat was. I never read the comic but assumed it was supposed to be a companion of some kind. And yet she barely interacted with it and then completely left it behind at the end of the movie. Say huh? I guess it was just there for some laughs?

Well this movie was pretty heavily inspired by the KSD run of comics and Chewie was a big part of this run so they just renamed Chewie to Goose and put him in the movie for fan service.

To be fair we do live in a **** world now where we can't say anything, sure I told you about me getting kicked from a FB group for a joke. The world is too crybaby but I enjoyed this film and didn't feel it was forcing anything, it felt less up its own arse like WW was. That felt to me like LOOK WE"VE A FEMALE LEAD!!! And it was awful imo, this film was miles better than WW and Marvel wasn't promoting it like they're doing something amazing or different, it was just another super hero film.

Agreed. It's easy to say we should "ignore race" when the system is heavily tilted in our favor and we already have a huge step up. The fact the white majority now says that any small attempt to help those groups who have been historically oppressed is equally as racist is just laughable to me.

But then it usually comes from those who want to pretend racism doesn't exist anymore, or who think that if we just didn't talk about it so much the problem would go away. Lol

Are you kidding me? The whole marketing for this film and a lot of the dialogue in it was pretty much, look I'm a woman look how amazing I am and I can do anything better than anyone else. WW had none of that and that's one of the reasons why it was so good. It didn't need to keep pointing out she's a woman or make her out to be incredibly special, she just was badass.

Captain Marvel pretty much toed the line of, in the words of Tywin "Any man who must say, "I am the King", is no true king." Captain Marvel was way too heavy-handed in making sure everyone knew about girl power to the point it seemed like a long TV ad for girls being able to grow up and do man stuff also.
