It's a goof in the continuity whether you like it or not. Sure it's minor, but it should at least be addressed.

This is why Better Call Saul is pretty epic. They make use of every small detail in BB and tie it into BCS. It helps immerse the audience more into the universe they've created. They don't insult the audience...in fact they reward the really eagle-eyed fans.

Sure, saying the entire words for the acronym of SHIELD would be mad annoying, but they could have written a throwaway line or something to address it. They didn't even try and merely just overlooked it...but then again they didn't really try with this movie at all. Generic, no risk-taking, and boring.

Once again, the SHIELD stuff is minor in the whole scheme of things...Captain Marvel had wayyyy bigger issues than just that, but then again there was like what? 4 or 5 writers for this movie? So that's where the bad writing stems from...too many cooks in the kitchen.

That, and having inexperienced indie directors, think Feige was too interested in getting a "name" actress that sorta/kinda fit the part, vs. a lesser-known actress that would have been perfect (IMO); the success of "funny" MCU movies seems to be triggering a trend, a production schedule that had to met...well, anyway, I just ignore CM except, great, the Skrulls are now in the MCU. Obviously she's in EG but I take that for what it is - not at EG for this character. Supposedly the Russos are dealing with her being OP.

Plenty of poor quality sequels have come out; or "revisions" of old movies that are "updated and modern" but really don't work. I know a lot of folks liked CM but now that hugely popular characters are available that people wanna see - don't know if there will ever be another CM. :dunno

Which is why if I were interested I'd be leaping on this fig, which at least is a pretty loaded release.

Curious to hear everyone's opinion on this - I have NOT seen the movie yet - the general concensus amongst friends who have seen it is that it was a solid MCU entry but regarding Carol Danvers - "I wouldn't want to be her friend."
Do you feel that it was the way the character was written or how Brie Larson played it? Do you think it was to characterize her as an aloof Kree warrior/weapon or a story telling foil for Fury?
Finally, if you do feel like she's pretty much a jerk, does it influence your decision to buy this figure?

Your friends are totally wrong. I didn't see what they saw.

Nah...I got way more, but def don't feel like getting into it. The SHIELD one was the easiest to point out though.

That’s why I’m wondering if it’s a continuity error in the first place. I know it might not be considered canon but didn’t Howard Stark mention the name SHIELD in the Agent Carter Movie Short?

What others were there as I’ve heard of a couple of others, but they were iffy anyway, and could be explained away by the circumstances. Such as the Tesseract, Fury’s eye, and the reason for Phase 2 etc.

I believe he did, plus in Winter Soldier there was the secret SHIELD bunker at the NJ military camp that had the huge logo on the wall. I think someone would have started using the acronym in the 50+ years before Captain Marvel arrived. :lol So the "continuity error" with respect to 2008 has been in the MCU before this movie. It appeared as soon as they went back and established that the organization started in the WWII time frame.

I believe it was originally called the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) when it was founded during WWII, but eventually was absorbed by SHIELD a few years later. Of course this is all splitting hairs as it would have happened 40 years before CM.

So is there a reason why in the 90s they called SHIELD...SHIELD? But for whatever reason in 2008 it was just Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division??? :lol

This movie is easily the worst written one in respect to story and overall continuity. :slap

IMHO, I don't think that using the full name or acronym raises a red flag. For example, agents working for the FBI can call their agency the "Federal Bureau of Investigation" instead of "FBI". Both refer to the same agency. But using the complete name sounds more formal and authoritative (at least to me). Acronyms make the name shorter and easier to say but aside from that I don't think much about it.

Another example is the company called P&G (owner of the Pampers and Tide brands). The company now refers to itself as P&G (per their logo and corporate website). However, do a Google search for "Procter and Gamble" and you'll still find lots of news websites referring to the company by its full name.

Like when they hired Benedict Cumberbatch for Doctor Strange? Or when they replaced Terrence Howard with one of the other 5 famous black actors for War Machine?

They've almost exclusively been hiring stars for these movies, this is nothing new.

I dunno...no one really knew Brie Larson before she was cast for CM. She was def not known on the level of said Cumberbatch or even Terrence Howard. Larson was mainly known in the indie circuit.

I never heard of her until this movie, I knew who Benedict was because of Sherlock and Star Trek 2.

You can't say no one knew her before this movie. She's not an unknown, she won the Oscar for best actress for Room a few years ago. That's when I first remember seeing her and put her on the map. She was also in Kong Skull Island which may be more up the alley for this forum.

First time I saw Brie on the big screen was 21 Jump Street. I also recall her winning that Oscar for the Room. Not to mention Trainwreck and Kong. She definitely made a name for herself far before her casting as CM.

I thought the movie was just okay, I didn't hate it, but I won't be watching it again anytime soon. Probably my least favorite MCU movie at this point.

Larsons acting was so wooden, it seems like she was acting as if all of existence was beneath her. All in all, I never really liked the casting of Larson as Carol in the first place as I felt there were far better options than her. But I guess Oscar clout makes a difference. Otherwise, I feel the movie was largely over-hyped. I'm hoping she get's better as she settles into the character... Then again, (not that anyone here would know this) I've disliked Carol as a character for quite awhile, and Civil War 2 cemented my dislike for the character. So I can't say that didn't effect my opinion of the movie.
I don't have a problem with her being around for the future of the MCU, but being the supposed replacement for Captain Rogers is a bit much IMO.

That being said. I still want this figure and won't cancel it. Though I'm kinda wishing I waited to see if there would be an Endgame version now. I really don't want more than one of her with the red/blue/yellow colorway and I like the aesthetic of her outfit/hair in the post credits scene a bit more than the solo movie version. I would get one of her in the starforce colors though.

Movie scene spoilers:

The most memorable part for me was when she was in the Skrull ship after breaking free of the mind machine. Her yelling “blargh” back at the Skrull trying to intimidate her was super adorable. Then again, I’m a sucker for moments like that. I really enjoyed that whole sequence.

I think I want the Kree colors of this suit and the Endgame as the red/blue version for my money.

I didn't find her wooden at all, but there was something a bit inscrutable about her, and the fact the movie didn't really five that deeply into the character and what made her tick didn't really help.

I did like that mischievous look she always had in her eye, and the way she never seemed to take anyone seriously, and just wish we could have gotten a lot more of that.

I thought she was great too, all I heard was she was bland and can't act or smile, she smiles lots.

I agree. It’s almost like anyone who says that hasn’t watched the film and has only watched the trailers.

Because it was exactly that statement that was being spread by the trolls weeks/months before the movie came out.

The Kree Starforce color suit will be a con exclusive...for sure...

Here's hoping the head sculpt is from this scene. I understand why others want a Vers version, but I've already got two Captain Marvels on order (so I can display both the regular and mohawk/helmet versions) so I don't need a third. Plus I love the unique look of Minn-Erva's mask. And it's Gemma Chan...:drool

Hmm. I can't remember another action figure thread generating so much discussion about the acting of the person portraying the character. Seems odd, especially because she has won an Oscar for a leading role. Great actors star in these movies, and the performances they give in them are almost never the best work of their careers, as the movies never usually give them a great chance to be at their best.
