I can’t help but notice though that it only becomes “political” and disliked when people start offering counterpoints, no matter how polite or cordial, to the myriad of posts that involve the denigration of white males. Those posts usually go uncomplained about, and actually, people often make jokes about the issue.

Yes, because it's a silly thing to complain about. Because us white men just have it soooo hard in this country, don't we?

Businesses and institutions get called out all the time for this stuff! It's not just some fleeting, ultra-rare occurrence. It's seen in the criminal justice system, in employment, in housing, in access to medicine, in denial of bank loans, in voting suppression...

Yea, of course they get called out. Because people shout "RACISM!!" every time something doesn't go their way. Like those two guys that got kicked out of Starbucks for not following the rules. Or every single time their is a (typically justified) police shooting.

The bigger question is how many of those times are found after an investigation to actually be racism.

Yes, my "orange tabbies" post was an attempt to inject a little levity/whimsy into the thread in the hopes that people (on both sides) might recognize how futile their arguments had become. It's apparent that strategy was unsuccessful. Can't we just agree to disagree, stop shouting at the wind AND MOVE ON???!!!???

If they are getting the best grades and are the most accomplished, then yes; Ivy Leagues should be filled entirely with Asian students. Nothing is stopping anyone else from working just as hard. Colleges are literally stating that the work put in by Asians is inherently worth less than that done of someone else based entirely on their race. How is that not extremely racist?

I don’t disagree, as that was half my point, but the issue was that basing everything on one metric (pure merit) doesn’t always work, or else our Asian invasion into many western countries (I’m of Chinese decent by the way) would prevent a lot of individuals of other backgrounds from getting into colleges. And can you imagine the outcry from the majorities/minorities if college entrants were taken solely by one minority. I think that extreme would be something both sides of American politics would do to prevent. Which is why the somewhat unfortunate system currently in place in various colleges (Ivy) exists in the first place.

It’s not that Asians are inherently smarter, far from it, but in general those of East Asian background put far greater emphasis towards study to the detriment of everything else, and as some of us know a paper degree doesn’t automatically equate long term success in life. So why not take that into account.

But back to the film, some viewers have mentioned that the girl power message was too in your face, and others not nearly as much. I’m wondering why the disparity? For me personally as long as it’s narrative solid I don’t care much about the supposed agenda message. As long as they tell a coherent story I’m more than fine with that (I’m still genuinely surprised by the representation of the Skrulls, and why I want a Talos figure). It’s when it becomes detrimental to the narrative that I have an issue with it, and I honestly had no such problems with Captain Marvel. I just wish it was a bit faster paced, but that’s sometimes the issue of it being an introductory movie, and I hope the sequel improves in all aspects. Again I give the film a solid 7 out of 10 (barely).

As I asked, did these studies cite which businesses and institutions, and what the circumstances were as to why this happened, and able to prove that it was for no other reason than because of someone’s skin color or gender? For instance, did they not qualify for a loan because they simply didn’t qualify, regardless of their extrinsic attributes? Which isn’t evidence that society as a whole is an inherently racist, bigoted and sexist place, and that there is one entire system oppressing people and that there’s a vast conspiracy theory to prevent those people from succeeding based on their skin color and gender and ignoring their qualifications.

Why do you insist on personally attacking me based on skin color, and not addressing the actual argument? I haven’t once personally attacked you for anything, and have only refuted your arguments. Also, why do you presume that anyone who merely disagrees with the premise of your arguments, must be white? Is it unfathomable to you that a black or Hispanic person would disagree with you?

Your statement only reinforces that the action of attacking white males on the basis of their skin color, or anyone for that matter, stops rational discourse before it begins, and that this action has become normalized and shouldn’t be contested.

For the meantime I find this discussion to be intriguing...I know this is a figure forum, but what more is there to say about the subpar figure that is Captain Marvel? It's all just side banter and meaningless comments until this figure is eventually released anyways.

We might share a lot in common as people. I mean, we already share a common hobby. I don’t believe him to be a bad person, as I’ve already told him. We also both agree that equal opportunity provides the best chance for everyone to succeed. I just disagree with his characterization of it because what he describes is equal outcome, not equal opportunity.

However, he seems to only want to define me based on skin color, and that based on that alone, I must have evil intentions if I disagree with him. The difference between he and I is that I simply think he’s a person with bad ideas, whereas he seems to think that people who disagree with his ideas must be of a certain skin color, and are bad people.

That’s what I’ve always found funny, even though not everyone in California is a left winger, the entire state gets painted as such, because of a very vocal bunch.

Now I consider myself to be liberal minded and all that, but some of the political things I’ve been hearing happening out of New York etc, stretches my credulity, as imo that’s a quick way to lose moderates and undecideds and then the next election. My point is that not everyone believes in the exact same things, even within the same so called parties. We’re all different, with ‘mostly’ our own opinions.

I think we all know I hold headsculpt likeness to a very high regard and this one definitely doesn't live up to my expectations...so there was no intentional baiting on my part since I legit think the figure itself is subpar.

And yeah, a lot of the figure to me is heavily weighted on the likeness especially since that's her main look. Sure, she does rock the helmet, but it was legit for like 15 seconds. So the Brie Larson face is the main look and I'm sorry, but Hot Toys missed the mark because it's just not quite there.

That’s quite a lot of places. I’ve only ever lived in California. I’ve been up to the Bay Area a couple of times in the mid 90s. I thought it was really nice, at least at that time.

Are you kidding me? The whole marketing for this film and a lot of the dialogue in it was pretty much, look I'm a woman look how amazing I am and I can do anything better than anyone else. WW had none of that and that's one of the reasons why it was so good. It didn't need to keep pointing out she's a woman or make her out to be incredibly special, she just was badass.

Captain Marvel pretty much toed the line of, in the words of Tywin "Any man who must say, "I am the King", is no true king." Captain Marvel was way too heavy-handed in making sure everyone knew about girl power to the point it seemed like a long TV ad for girls being able to grow up and do man stuff also.

I didn't see any of that.
