Insufferable S.O.B.
I havent messed with the paint spots yet, but from the looks of it the foam basically polished the flat paint, so maybe wetsanding it with some fine sandpaper might get it to match the rest. That or simply repaint it.
I feel like we're on the same boat. I'm personally disappointed with my Tumbler due to the paint flaws that it has. It has one large spot on the top of the car, tip of the front windshield panel, & two spots on the left side of the car. I'm not dealing with the seller(for a couple of reasons that I cannot go into on this post) for these issues and have sent an email/inquiry to Hot Toys to see what they can do for me.
Sometimes I wonder if other people have these problems with theirs also and are okay with it. For me though, if something is $400+ it should not come out of the box with all these issues.
Have you tried wiping it with a microfiber cloth?
I just cancelled my order with Joe.
all the waiting has made me thinking that I better spend the money on my newfound hobby (RC) and if time and money alow me in the future, I will get the tumbler eventually...but for now, afther considiration, it isn't worth it for me.
Not that easy. Some of these stains are deep in the unfinished plastic, almost as if some type of glue accelerator or chemical was used sloppily.
These aren't merely surface grease spots that can be wiped off.
It isn't paint. It is black plastic processed in the matte finish. That is why the polystyrene rubbing against it on some peoples was actually buffing it up from the friction in transit. It marks extremely easy.
Just to clarify, when I checked and fixed these marks it was never fingerprints. It was the polystyrene packaging pressing onto the plastic marking it. Causing it to appear at first thinking it was thumb prints. The way the packaging was done causing imprinting of the dotted pattern into it. Really isn't the best of packaging for protecting it for looks. Done more harm than good. Most if not all depending on how long this had happened during transit most came out with luke warm water and a soft cloth. Other marks I had to fix up with matte weathering kits to take the shine out from the pressure of the lid to the plastic. The polystyrene isn't soft enough to protect it. It alone is like a firm soft plastic (but not soft enough) in a way causing that rubbing/buffing effect.
Indeed. I'm curious why a lot of people keep on thinking it's painted.

It's true swo77 but when you have the hot toys figures and the bat-pod, the tumbler is essential!
I'm happy to don't have problem with mine (except paint but everybody have it).
Wow this thread will just not die! lol.......I havent been on here in a week and a half and this is still at the top of the list...Awesome! I have my acrylic display case coming this week for the Tumbler so hopfully I will have something else to contribute to this thread.

That post of yours was great for showing the issue with the packaging and how it affects the plastic. I'm not sure why people keep saying it is painted, either.
Looking at mine, the staining (not the rub spots you pointed out) appears to be due to mold release agent or possibly CA accelerator...not sure. A lot of the staining of the plastic seems erratic, often in areas that don't have any CA adhesive near them. Looking at pictures of other Tumblers, the stains don't appear in similar locations, though.
Seems to be a random manufacturing defect in the raw plastic finish. If these outer panels were painted, these issues would most likely not be so common.
Like I said before, I'm seriously considering breaking mine down, thoroughly washing the parts with de-greaser, sanding the glue splotches/nicks/scuffs and airbrushing it with a nice, even coat of matte black.
Has anyone confirmed that this not painted? I know the only way to definitely check requires rubbing the surface. The reason I ask is that the surface looks too blemish free (assuming no stains/rubmarks) to be unpainted styrene plastic. I've worked with many styrene kits, and the only way to get such a smooth finish w/o paint is to fine sand/buff. It's likely cheaper just to spray a light coat of paint - it also hides other plastic defects such as flash, swirls and other blemishes. My HT Dk figure had similar marks on the back of head and the head was painted flat black even though it was cast in black. even the SS stormtrooper was painted even though cast in white plastic. the marks on the DK were easily remedied by airbrushing some flat black. I plan to do the same with the tumbler, though this may require more masking.
Defnitely sucks that there are issues for such a pricey item, but I look forward to fixing these issues. I'll post pics when/if i do.
Mine isn't pained, its just black plastic.
Then wetsanding it should be fine.
