Hot Toys Announce Batman Returns License

Here is my thoughts….

You can save all that you want but your savings will not be at par with the price when finally released.

So what - saving always helps.

Yeah. And if you're a OT Star Wars fan you may as well for get it. It'll be year 3024 before they get all the core characters.

Although Devito was brilliant in the role - that figure would just be way too creepy to have in my house.

I'd imagine him grunting at me & wanting to bite me every time I'd walk past it.

Agreed. But $300 for what was once $220 a year + ago will bring sadness to anyones heart and wallet. Essentially Hot Toys is still getting paid for having us wait.

They'll make more SW figures - of course they will. If you're not concerned about having things in the short term - the time frame isn't a big deal man.

Well, to begin with - I disliked the entire film. As time went on though, I came to really appreciate & then admire the film. I agree though, Devito's Penguin was never a take I liked that much - but that said, he played the role well.

That's an interesting point actually - providing one actually 'bites' so to speak.

We do have the option to give them the finger if we're utterly unimpressed with their pricing. I know going ahead, that I'll just be bowing out completely when it gets to a stage where it's beyond expensive. I've already touched the line with Tamashii 3PO.

My goal is to try & acquire MY most favoured pop culture icons - & then whatever amended versions they may or may not release after that of said icons - care factor zero. I'm not 'collecting' these things per se, more piecing together a very small & focused pop culture 'shrine'.. for lack of a better explanation.

Funny I was actually the opposite. As a kid I liked Batman Returns the best of the Burton/Schumacher films. As an adult I can barely even stand to watch Batman Returns and would overall say that Batman (1989) is the best of the four. I also liked certain elements of Batman Forever even though it's far from perfect.

I just hate the way Burton had DeVito portray The Penguin in the film as some grotesque sewer freak. I've mentioned it a ton of times before I know but the plot of him running for mayor and the citizens of Gotham seemingly backing him is beyond stupid. Yes I realize he has been mayor in the comics before, but the comics he also wasn't a sewer freak but rather was just a person who had a big nose and an affliction for birds and who was picked on as a kid. That whole story could have been infinitely better and made more sense if Shreck had been the one running for mayor with Penguin pulling the strings rather than the opposite.

The time for this was Wolverine when he went up for pre-order. Bare Bone non DX for $234.99. This figure took regular MMS figures into the $200 and above range. Look at the recent GI Joe pre-order (Road Block, Storm Shadow) and Barney Ross. Compare them to T-800 T1 from not to long ago at $170. HT's decided to test the waters and people took the bait.

Already there with Robocop. I watched this in the theatre, vhs, dvd and blu-ray. Huge fan but not at $300.

I thought HT Luke was reasonably priced.. so I bit at $320 (AUD) via a local e-Tailer. I then soon discovered that had I waited a couple months more, I could've got him for $245 shipped from another local place that sprung a sale on everyone at the last second.

These days though - yeah, anything that's a standard MMS with the usual inclusions should be set at a reasonable price.The DX thing is relative; beyond the expected PERS, some have gotten great inclusions.. & some haven't.

I guess it comes down to what one personally is fine with paying, but I'm happy to be a bystander till I can justify the purchase.

That's why Batman Returns was a brilliant art piece. In the movie, the Penguin is a freak which was a myth turned hero/celebrity despite of what he is and how he looks. It's a statement of how in the real world, it's all about perception and how politicians look in front of the press. Same goes for the Penguin in the movie. Even a freak like him can be praised and run for mayor. It's obvious where in the movie when the Penguin is outside facing the public he dresses nicely with a nice coat and tall hat but while he is in his hideout with his gang he takes off those fancy clothes and the tone he speaks is more rude and grumpy.

Batman Returns really stand out in being the best Batman film not only as a comic book adaptation but also an art film with greatly written characters.

Meh. I guess that political satire could be one way of looking at it but somehow I don't think that Tim Burton is that insightful to have made something that clever on purpose. I know it's a comic movie and I shouldn't be looking at it that realistically but still it's pretty dumb. The Penguin was abandoned by his parents and had no education, lived in a sewer for all his life, and was deformed/grotesque. Suddenly he saves the mayor's baby and people love him and willingly back him as a realistic candidate for mayor? Unless the people of Gotham are just a bunch of idiots it makes no real sense.

At least had they done it with Shreck as the person running for mayor with The Penguin pulling the strings it would have been somewhat believable as he was a seemingly somewhat successful businessman and likely had a decent education and all that.

I took it that you were saying that HT would eventually start putting out SW figures at a faster pace. I know they'll make more, I was just saying at the pace they're going it'll be many years before we get most of the core character from the OT. Having things in a short period of time isn't a problem but getting those core characters out before I die is.

Though I'm not a fan of the film, if they release a Returns Batman, I'd be down since I didn't get the Batman 89 DX, and it's a cool suit.

Returns Batman shouldn't have that problem with his plate armor.

A few guys (including myself) felt some moisture but I haven't been able to identify any real leaking and neither has any one else to my knowledge

I would, but I'm not paying much more than retail. Ebay has it at $450.

I mainly want another Batman because I got a screwed-up legs BB SDCC figure that I'm thinking about boxing up because I'm not sure what to do with it, and I want another Batman.
