Jake meets his Avatar :)

Hot Toys cheaped out.

Technically, they Avenger'd out, spent too much time on them and other Iron Man figs, so they didn't develop this in-time to meet their release date, realized they'd continue losing sale from repeated delays so decided to skip the base plant lights in favour of getting it released.

Ha, I know people have every right to moan about the base light being taken away but seriously how often would you use them. When I get a figure with a light or lights feature, I always check them but never to be turned on again. Yet I would be pissed of if they didn't work.

Wow, I have to eat some serious blue crow.

I posted some harsh criticisms on OMG's photo review, and upon viewing Elljay's review (www.elljay-hobby-collection.com) His photos convince me otherwise, that this is indeed a fine representation of Jake Sully Avatar.

It is quite amazing that by simply tilting the head down, Sully now appears quite menacing and not 'stunned' as I posted earlier. The close up photos show that the paint aps are quite stunning.

Congrats on those finally getting this:hi5:

Thanks for the link, them pictures are superb. Anyone interested or buying this figure should definitely go check them out :clap

maybe a customizer here can lighten up those plant bulbs that were supposed to light up? though, I doubt many would want to pay even more for something on this figure

Keep hearing about the expense of new molds and original body. Every "new" toy needs new molds. Figures are not birthed. They are sculpted molded and cast. Regardless if it's DC Dircet, Neca, Mattel & Hot Toys. Mold created. Hot plastic goes in. Toys come out. This figure did not break new ground at all. No new innovative joint system used. Just a tall well painted figure. They are produced in few numbers then other makers (not sure how true that is anymore though), but not sure why Hot Toys gets so much credit for creating new molds. For 2 to 5 hundred dollars you better frakin makin a new original mold.
/ end rant

What his refers to is that in the world of 1/6 most manufactures use the same body (mold) over and over again as a way to keep costs down and have consistency across lines. However, HT has really pioneered using non-standard bodies to make figures and when this is done you can imagine the cost is higher to them in 1) additional R&D to make the body and 2) less reuse of the body for future figures. THis is one reason Jake is more expensive than a standard 12" tall figure; not to mention he's also much larger and has a lot of paint work.

With a standard 1/6 figure usually the only unique sculpted things are the head and a few accessories. Body and hands are all usually reused over and over again.
And as someone else said; molds are very expensive (not $200-$500, I've heard estimates in the thousands)... but larger companies that produce ES in 10,000s can do this easily, lower ES like this means a higher cost all around.

Even relatively simple high precision pre-hardened steel injection molds can cost tens of thousands of dollars...

:exactly: :goodpost:

I never care about light features. To me likeness and accuracy is more important.

I actually haven't used the light up functions on any of my figs yet. My only reasoning behind that is that I don't want to worry about replacing batteries or having the battery corrode once it's in use.

Yeah, i saw that great pic, more full frontal pics would be good :lol

:horror

I'll wait for the Neyteri fig before I ask for anything like that :lol.

But seriously Nova, just get the figure already! You know you want it!! :yess: :hi5:
