Seeing lots of concerning pics on FB today, people are starting to find hairline cracks in their axles after a few days of ownership.

Yeah this thing is a mess.

I really don't want to cancel this, but I also really don't want a broken DeLorean. I guess it's a good thing I still have a few months of FLEX to decide.

I think we can kiss the Part 3 version goodbye. I really don't see HT wanting to bother with another DeLorean ever again after all the QC issues this one is having.

To avoid breaking the wheels, turn the vehicle on its back, slowly extend the wheels all the way until they click a second time. I grasped each wheel with both hands and pulled steadily and straight- directly out. I think any deviation on this plan could result in breaking. The parts are not very thick.

As for the speckling on the tires- it is on all sides of every wheel and all over the undercarriage, so not overspray. It must be how they chose to paint the "weathering".

I think the vehicle looks pretty fantastic- the lights work great, and there are a ton of little details.



The stand was tricky and I think it is pretty flimsy considering how large/heavy the car is, but it does work.

Marty's not so sure he wants a dolly up in Doc's machine...

Yeah, I'm very close to cancelling.

I want this piece way too much to cancel it. Worst case scenario is it arrives broken and I'll just have to go through the hassle of boxing it back up and returning it.

My main concern is, what is this problem going to look like in 2 years? So what if you get a “good” one today? I would get so paranoid about hairline cracks showing up randomly one day and the whole mechanism just completely breaking.

Rolling the dice on a $300 figure is not the same as an $800-$1K vehicle. I can’t believe that I actually sat down and had a talk with my girlfriend last week about selling a portion of my collection to pay for this mess.

I haven't had any issues with the wheels, but one of the hinges on the hood of my Delorean arrived broken. That means that the hood can't stay in the up position. Since I can still open it to turn on the lights, it's not a huge deal...but we still deserve better for $800. I contacted Sideshow hoping for a new hood, but they can't part that piece out for some reason. So I was given the choice of a full exchange or store credit. Since I didn't want to bother packing it all up, I took the credit.

I'm happy with how it looks on display, but there are definite QC issues with this thing. Hot Toys quality continues to move in the opposite direction of their pricing.

I didn't try to glue it back in. I just set the chair back into the groove and I'm currently awaiting a reply from side show

The stand makes the car angled and not on a flat plane so if you want also want the gull wings door open inside the case you will need a good 22" of height clearance.

Only $80. I was fine with that for a broken hinge, but not sure if feel the same about a loose seat.

My DeLorean has not arrived yet, but looking at pictures, i think it should be possible to install a repair plate. Made from metal about 1mm thick and attaches with the existing screw and 2 additional ones. Install one on each side (2 per wheel). Painted black, i don't even think it's noticeable. As it's a simple part, a local metal fabricator should be able to make 8 of them for a small fee.

It would be better to fit them before it breaks, but the broken part can be glued back then install them. Even if you're lucky and get a replacement car, it will probably happen again.

Thanks for confirming this. I didn't want to believe such an odd decision was made but that's more likely than huge amounts of overspray. I suppose the variance I saw (other tires with little/no speckles) is a separate consistency issue but the existence of the specks themselves was intentional.

Will Sideshow refund the NRD if you cancel your preorder if there are quality concerns?

I'm feeling this way as well but it sounds like the hinges are not an 'if' but a 'when' situation.

I'm wondering if the speckling or weathering is down to the fact that the manufacturers were also in the process of creating the version 3 car and a batch of the Delorean car bodies for the v3 ended up on the v2 prodiction line? I guess it makes far more sense that the Delorean in the 1885 version should have the mud specks.
