Super Freak
I don't hate Cavill. He's good in the role but to me, he'll never really be Superman, just like the New 52 Superman will never be Superman. It's just a question of generation I guess but to me, in order to qualify as Superman you need at least two things: a Superman costume and optimism, two things the examples quoted above just don't have.
What we get is a Superdude in over designed duds that sings to the tune of his time: pessimism. I guess each generation gets their own rendition, and I guess it also tells a lot about the world we live in...
I grew up worshipping the Reeve films. However, I think this rendition of Superman is more relatable. I think that could potentially also be why many people who didn't really like the character before, now find a connection to the character.
Isn't the character going to be increasingly optimistic as this universe develops? Sure sounds like it for JL and WB looking at the likes of Matthew Vaughan for his next solo movie. The tone of the next Superman movie will probably much closer resemble Wonder Woman than MoS.
I actually like his costume. Just make it a little more colourful, the way WW armour was in her solo movie, and it would be close to perfect.
I think so too. I do think the DCEU is making Superman their main character, as they started the universe off with MoS and BvS in my opinion was more of a Superman film than a Batman film because it was Superman's idealism and hope that was intended to carry the film and have an impact on both Batman and WW.
I believe it's all meant to be a story and illustrate that the character has a learning curve. To show how he becomes what many here recognize as "Superman". Just let the story develop.
