Tough to say, because, first, the comic books and geekdom broadly defined that dominate Hot Toys' licenses were largely created in the USA. And during the Cold War, a patriotic hero made sense and was understandably popular here.So is Captain America popular in Japan/H.K?
Since the moment I heard HT had the licence I kinda had 'wtf?' type feelings.
I mean unlike Batman, Spidey etc, this characters whole purpose is to represent a specific country. From his origins to his attire, he is meant to illustrate patriotism for America. I knew he would be a hit here in the states, but didnt know how the rest of the world felt about this particular character. Im not biased towards any country what-so-ever but I honestly wouldn't care for or want (although I would respect it) a character that is a symbol for a specific country other than my own, for the sole purpose of the character not being relatable.
Its funny though, because the Japan/H.K/International fans in general will probably eat this up regardless. But how many American fans would even care for a "Captain Asia/*Insert Random Country*" film or figure?
...Kinda makes you think
\Most of Cap's stories don't beat you over the head with some jingoistic ideology, so even folks bothered with American hegemony, etc. might have enjoyed reading about his exploits if they could just look past his outfit.
... because they didn't create patriotic characters that were disseminated and appreciated by the rest of the world. Not that I'm aware of, anyway.
Check and mate.
I hope they give us a real metal shield with the red & blue paint app. It would really make it stand out. Sort of like how the latest Preds have the metal blades.
Im looking forward to this figure more than any other this year!
