I don't know. HT has knocked it out of the park with some of their sculpts like Aldo Raine, the Godfather, and the T1 T-800 in my opinion. So I wouldn't say it is "ignorant" to hope that we could get something very close to the real deal. And with this figure, I think we're a bit away from that on the PERS heads, very likely due to the damned useless PERS itself (ex. head seems to have the same sculpt but with static, painted eyes, and looks much better to me).
:goodpost:

Absolutely. The Arnolds are little masterpieces - & as you say, there are others that are amazingly close. The fact is - regardless of whether the clean head is lifelike / 'nice' or not.. it's not there yet. :dunno

That said - it's an excellent set. :peace

It's not spot on (and I think it's ignorant to think people think it looks exactly like Mark Hamill) but it's still obviously a Luke Skywalker figure, it's still obviously the best one ever made, and the likeness to Hamill is still extremely high (which would be much more obvious if the eyes weren't PERS).

Pfft, obviously. PERS sucks.

Bummer about the delay... but I've at least got a Bespin stand-in to keep me content. And at this point I don't have any figures I'm expecting to hit at that time so it should at least hit during the post SDCC lull.

It's very much a luke skywalker (concept arts, paintings etc), only 50% Hamill though.

..but im sure Hot Toys is already in the process of changing the sculpt, just like what
happend with Supes, Jack and Nicklaus Joker. By time of release, this would be a badass
figure with 99.9% likeness to Hamill :yess:

Absolutely, they must improve the clean headsculpt!

:exactly: This is the best Luke figure there is

Definitely compared to the older versions. And I think people said the same thing about those figures and thought they were great looking when they were released.

:lol this is turning into the Indy thread!

And this Luke figure is, as it seems, going to have the same fate as the Indy figure.

And this is after all a DX figure of one of the most famous characters in movie history (I don't think I exaggerated) made by the best 1/6 scale figure company.

I preordered it but I must say that normal sculpt and BD are not even in the same league of likeness...

Yeah it's not there yet but I agree that it's an excellent set.

On some figures it looks good and on some it doesn't, imo.

Jack and Nicklaus Joker.

When did Jack Nicklaus play the Joker?

Battle damaged portrait is passable...barely. Non-battle-damaged portrait is horrendous.

I have spoken. It is law. Debate is over.

Horrendous!?

Please. Think your going over board just a bit with the bashing?

Now, the ultimate unison is horrendous, this one is just alittle off.

BD barely passable? C'mon, it's dead on.

Funny thing is, all these people who bash end up buying it just the same.

Although I was joking about the first part (I added the smiley in case the completely over-the-top comment didn't make it obvious)...as for the highlighted part, if you believe for a second that I will be buying this figure, then you, sir, are mistaken. I do not buy Hot Toys. And it has nothing to do with the likeness. In fact, I have long stated on this forum that I don't care if a figure looks like the actor that played the role as long as the figure represents the character well...and this one does.

It is simply that Hot Toys figures do not "match" the Sideshow figures. And seeing as how I believe Hot Toys will only sporadically be throwing out a Star Wars figure in their DX line on a rare occasion, I am not interested in having them in my collection.

I meant Nicholson :peace :rotfl

I am happy enough with both sculpts to do something I have never done before- pre-order. I usually wait for figure reviews after it comes out and it is in hand.

With all the talk about the possibility of Hot Toys tweaking the sculpt I am just worried that it might not look as good if the change it.

Of course I don't mind improvements, but I per-ordered based on what the proto-type looks like.

How often does it ever happen that tweaks and changes just make things worse?

Last one I know was Captain America, but that was already not a good likeness to begin with and it is a masked figure.

Missed the smiley.

When you say HT figures don't match SS, are you referring to scale or are you referring to quality of head sculpt? Because even SS head sculpts and quality have improved to the point that the older figures pale in comparison. This will be HT's first Star Wars figure, officially at least, so I wouldn't make any assumptions regarding whether the scale will match SS.

They'll be the same scale but they'll make most human SW figures from SS look really cheap.

Darth Cruel is just worried about HT making his SS SW collection look bad. :lol

Of course, paint is to blame for a lot of that. Some of the Luke and Solo repaints look pretty great. I've got a repaint of Grove's ANH Solo myself that makes a figure that would otherwise remain shamefully in his box something I'm proud to have on my shelf.

Sideshow figures don't match Sideshow figures.

Sideshow quality ~2007 < ~2010 2011 2012 etc.

Your loss...
