Why is everyone talking about photography?

These are just point and click pictures captured probably by a cell phone. These devices just record what's infront of them. There's no artistry involved here good or bad.

They are clear and show the detail (and lack of) on the figure. I can see the paint rub on the nose for example.

So whilst not accentuating the sculpt or improving the look of the costume, this is what the camera captured. This is what was in the window of the store. So if you don't like it don't blame the poor sod who took some cell phone pics. Blame HT.

you are right, one cannot blame the pictures... and one would be naive to think it is just a case of bad lighting. we are all hoping that this isn't the correct figure that has been photographed.

I'm pretty sure he does. I know lukazou keeps everything he photos.

Yup. It's all part of HT's social marketing, pretty sure bloggers keep them for promoting HT products. HT cannot paid them per se, if discovered then the bloggers lose creditability since they would be considered as being employed by HT, don't forget that some bloggers not only take pictures but also do product review.

It's absurd to think that the bloggers invest so much time only to borrow the figures since they are not get paid. You also ask the question, what does HT do with the 'photographed copies'? They are all opened can use use for retail, may be for parts? Don't forget HT also need to cover the return shipping, which could be 1/3 the cost of retail price if not more (some bloggers are half way across the world), and 1/3 retail may in fact be the cost to HT.

I thank bloggers for their pictures and review, but to think they got nothing in return? That's just...

I haven't ordered this set yet I check in here more than most of the threads I have product ordered for just to be bathed in the Emo wave that will surely hit..... any......... time...............

.........NOW!

He posted before that he didn't get to keep them.

Well, we could always argue about whether bloggers get to keep the figures or not.

It would at least be something new besides whether or not the figure sucks.

It is two figures, really.

It doesn't matter what it costs them. What are you getting? Two different portraits, two sets of accessories, two costumes, clean and damaged.

How much does it cost you to buy two HT figures? $300?

I'm getting at - there is zero excuse to go cheap on materials and paint (which we don't even know if thats case yet).

Some people are saying that $300 might have bit into HT's profits too much which is absolute rubbish. It's a plastic figure with clothes on and a leather belt in a DX box x 2. It's not Iron man mark 7, Batman or even as kitted out as Indiana Jones. There is no reason for that claim.

I also completely agree with Rory on the photography. The guy took about 6 pictures from different angles of different sculpts. I bet he thought he took the best shots of his life.. til he put them on here..:lol

I don't need OMG photo's to tell me whatever that thing was - proto, customs shipper, rough model, finished product - is crap.

you left out Lucasfilm licensing.

It's true there may be no basis for the claim. No-one here really has any insight into why things in these lines cost what they do. In my case, I'm just trying to figure out why anything from HT looks as cheaply done as the figures and clothing in those pics.

In regards to the photos themselves, I agree w/Rorywan and others who say it's ridiculous to trash the guy's photographic skills and composition (lol) considering it was just some random opportunity for him to snag a few quick pics.

That wouldn't suddenly just pop up though. These things are designed with a profit in mind from the start. It's not unusual for designers to do things like this though. I remember the Dutch PF seemed to have a nice leather vest on then later it changed to a furry faux leather job. That piece still rocks though. :rock

I love all the different theories in this thread. :lecture

It's not the photographic skills in question, it's the prevailing conditions (eg. light and shadow) that can really throw off a shot. For instance, the skin tones are so out of whack with HT's usual efforts that it has to be a lighting issue (or else that's not the final figure).
