In the OT the heroes (and villains) would always try to cut off an enemy's escape route, *then* kill them.

The Imperials were obviously blasting Blockade Runner escape pods out of space until the droids got in one. The Empire deactivated the Falcon's hyperdrive before rounding up the heroes. The heroes would always first jam an enemy's communications before gunning down them down, and so on.

All Yoda had to do to prevent the entire freaking clone war is hold up his hand when he arrived at Dooku's hangar, shatter the glass in the ship's cockpit, and then dispatch Dooku at his leisure.

Maybe he tried but Dooku countered him with his Dark Force powers. Or maybe Dooku could've gone into Force stasis as he made his escape in the depressurized oxygen-less cockpit. Or maybe the transparisteel was cloaked in ysalamiri.

Well unless I'm mistaken (and I might be. Lord knows I haven't seen the prequels many times), wasn't Yoda hobbling around in the prequels, right before he starts jumping around the room like he's on PCP? Makes no sense whatsoever, but what about the prequels does?

Main thing I remember about that one scene where he fights that old guy is the crowd erupting into joyful laughter and applause, whilst I just cringed and wished I wasn't there.

Go to an SCA battle. or watch REally REALLY old martial arts masters.

IT does make sense. you've got a guy moving with a cane, or staff, moving about a little slowly. but when they need to, the drop the cane, and do what they need to do for a short period of time. then afterwords, they tend to need the walking stick again.

Falling off their active routine, ceasing to exercise, they tend to decline rather quickly.
