Are you crying? There's no crying on the Planet of the Apes! Dr. Zaius once called me a mutant and the devil's pawn... and that was after my parents traveled through a Hasslein Curve to watch me play in the game! And did I cry? No! Because there's no crying on the Planet of the Apes!

But seriously... you don't want a Virgil?

I want a Virgil more than you could ever know. That's why the monkeys cry. :monkey2 :monkey2 :monkey2

Oh oh oh! The good kind of crying! So sorry, my mistake. Yeah, I'm with you! I was watching Battle last night and Virgil needs to be a figure. He needs to be.

Until that day:

I like these, but I already have Sideshow's junk. :( I wish I could just get rid of them. Anyone want to buy a complete set (including exclusives and both Lawgiver statues)?

$120 each, and there's got to be at least, what, five or ten coming out in this line ... I can't afford this hobby any more, at this price point. It's getting to where I'm going to have to toss in the towel. At the old $35-40 price I could get stuff I liked but didn't love (like POTA for me), but I can't keep up with these prices. And I actually make a decent living, and don't have any debt, but I just can't justify a thousand bucks on a toy line ... not in this economy ...

I'm down to where I can't buy more than one figure a month, and that's with making eating choices that allow me to save money. (more ham sandwiches and easy mac, less eating out) I certainly understand. Still, don't punish yourself just because times are hard, you do deserve some happiness, espescially in hard times. Just remember that your purchases do help stimulate the economy. If we all just sit on our money, it's going to get worse. I'm out of work right now, but I still try to budget where I can get something nice now and then. It will get better.

PZ, I'm going to go ahead and make my own version of Virgil. I will cut the body down to make him shorter (found a website that had step by step instructions). If Hot Toys makes one, and if their Virgil looks great, I will buy it, too.

Am with you on this. BBTS has Ursus for pre-order at $169.99. I collect Rocky and Rambo. I'm a huge Planet of the Apes fan and I really wanted to collect some HT apes, but the price point is really high. I might just start collecting the SS Apes because a lot of collectors might want to sell them so they can afford the HT Apes.

Can someone please anwser me one question? 3 years ago I purchased my first Hot Toys figure. It was Rambo First Blood Part II fig. It sold for $65 What happened in only 3 years that HT now gets three times that for a single figure:confused:

They became successful. They also became ambitious, and ambition takes funding. Look at Sideshow. They kept their prices around the $40-$45 mark for years and it took them forever just to come up with a new body. If you want to dance, you got to pay the band.

I have to disagree with you on this. He said that he usually buys figs for $35-$40 and that he's come to the relazation that the price point is just to high in this economy. I have to agree, Bottom line is 3 years ago HT figs were priced very reasonable and now their closing in at $150-$200 price point for a single figure.:horror

The only good thing about HT is that when their figs are first brought up for pre-order you have a good three to five months to save your money.

What I'm saying is, I make a very good living right now, but everything suddenly seems a little uncertain in this economic downturn, I'm not sure what my situation is going to be like in a year or two, and figures at this price point just make me queasy. Though to put it in context this is not a price point I've adapted to even without considering the scary economy, I've mostly stayed away from it. But with things as they are, I just can't imagine I'm the only person who's going to think, er, maybe not this year. I just wonder if this hobby is going to eventually price itself out of existence.

I think you're right about the hobby, but I don't think it well price itself out of existence.

I think the next step in the hobby well be HT numbering each fig and releasing them in a limited 1/500 or 1/1000 This way they can justify the price.

I really think HT is looking for $250+ a fig and they already know that collectors well pay it. What really sucks is the young collector whose in high school or college, at $125 you could collect still, but at $175+ it's pretty much over:horror
