I'm out of the loop on that story, what happened?

It’s a long story, but they were offering people a small partial refund on a $1,500 statue to folks who got one with a fully broken leg. Would $100 make you happy if your $1,500 Thanos arrived with a broken leg?

Those numbers aren’t exactly correct, but they are close. The Sideshow Facebook group was very pissed over it.

Their customer service is sliding. Go look at how they handled the Thanos statue last month. [emoji15]

There’s always an occasional issue but they still have great customer service overall.

It’s changed. 5-10 years ago they’d swap a part you were unhappy with (like a bad paint application), no question asked. Today they’ll offer you a few bucks or tell you to return it for a refund (and not get one from them).

In the good ‘old days I’d say their customer service was awesome. Today, I’d say they are somewhat difficult. A common thing they’ll tell you, “They all are like that” (often a lie).

So unless you have something physically broken on the figure, they will make it as difficult as possible to get something replaced with a cosmetic flaw. And even with something broken (like Thanos statue) they may just try to give you a few bucks instead of replace it.

I don’t think that’s totally accurate. They still replace parts all the time. The thanos statue issue isn’t anywhere near like it was made to seem. They offered to replace parts, they have done and are doing full replacement for many people. Even in the thread on this site in the last few weeks multiple people have said they are getting full replacement. They offered a few people who didn’t want to return for a small issue partial refunds. That’s actually good customer service not bad. No one was offered a few bucks to keep a totally broken figure and not given a return option or replacement.

Occasionally they won’t do a replacement when it’s like star lord where the neck paint rub is on the vast majority of figures. Doesn’t make sense to send you a replacement when the chances are it’s gonna have the same issues and then they either do it again or do a refund anyway.

If it’s not a mostly universal issue they do replacement now just like they did.

Thanks for the clarity. I've been thinking of ordering through sideshow solely for their customer service that I hear about. Hearing about their high than normal shipping is sort of a bummer, but I suppose I can look past it knowing they'll cover some issues I may run into.

I have never had issues with SS customer service. They will ask if you want a partial refund sometimes but if you say no i want a replacement they have always done it for me. usually when i have had an issue with a figure or statue it's resolved within a week. Just my experience.

I think a lot of the bashing of Sideshow while promoting other companies comes from people butt hurt over sideshow reducing the amount of codes given out. Some people were totally dependant on those codes and felt entitled to them. Once sideshow started to wean them they became properly outraged.

crap I missed the BBTS pre-order. no chance I’m pre-ordering from Sideshow and paying the NRD. Im out of options.

Seriously? You would rather just completely miss out on a figure you "want" because there's a NRD?

Other than shipping and potentially sales tax, the retail price is exactly the same :huh

"Sweet! This figure is a must have for me! Wait... NRD? Pass" :lol

Another candidate who should be asking themselves the question "Do I really want this figure or not ?".

Or it's someone just playing the smart**se :lol

I have had nothing but great customer service from sideshow. They are always pleasant when I talk to them. I believe they are top notch company still.

The reason why they cant make a full replacement now and sometimes offer just partial refund cause there has been a huge spike with the popularity of of these collectibles, specially Hot Toys. 5 years ago, you have a lot of these collectors here now who have never even heard of Hot Toys. But now, a you see these figures posted in many comic book sites.

So you have all these new collectors who are first stepping into high end collectibles, and when you're used to buying figures from Toys r us, and then you step into Hot Toys, there's a lot who are still not used to spending that much money on one figure so they think their figure should be 100% perfect. I've seen pics here where its a minute flaw, like a little scratch on the boots or something...that only that person can notice, but yet, they post that they called Sideshow and they want an exchange.

Its understandle if the figure is defective, or if there's a paint scraped off the face. But Many times, I'm slapping myself on the forehead cause I see pics here all the time and the person has to put a circle on the flaw.

So I dont blame Sideshow for now being a more careful on who to give refunds or replacements with.
But for me personally, I have had lots of contacts with Sideshow in the past, and they have been absolutely great with me.
So they'll always get my money when I want a new figure.

I agree with folks saying SSC’s customer service is generally reliable.

I’ve had a few misses over the years, but the vast majority of my experiences have been positive.

For me it did feel like customer service dipped down in quality and helpfulness for a little while a few years ago, but I haven’t had an issue in recent years.

They replaced parts painlessly for a couple of figures I just purchased. Very friendly CSRs. No hassle. Offered a replacement, partial refund, or full return at the same time.

If you have a real issue, they’ll take care of you without hesitation.

To piggyback onto the debate. I’ve never really had an issue with SS. When I have had an issue with a figure they fixed it and were nice in the process. I just order elsewhere now due to tax and shipping costs. Nothing wrong with them though.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Hot Toys never released spidey for Civil War. I always assumed it was because of a licensing issue since Disney was “borrowing” Spiderman (Also how the marvel legends figure had to be released in a 3 pack with Iron Man and Cap). Now the companies seem to have no issue with it now. I’m wondering if it’s the fact that he’s being labeled “Iron Spider” instead of Spiderman. Or I could just be talking out of my ***:lol

Just throwing my 2 cents in, ssc may overcharge for shipping, but their customer service has been more than great for me. My biggest problem was the emporer throne, broken right where the chair connected to the base. Ssc replaced it no questions asked. Luckily my figures have mostly shown up fine.

I also completely agree that some of us are way too critical of these toys. I certainly dont expect ripped clothing or broken bodies, but yeah a speck on a boot is kind of nit picky. So spiderman has a stitch that a nanometer off, i dont think many will notice, especially with the naked eye.

The didn't release him for Civil War because they were waiting for Homecoming. This is Iron Spider because it's a special Iron Man like Suit Stark develops for Peter.

There was a rights issue for civil war. And it wasn’t just from hot toys. Several licensors made public statements that he had to included in a two pack. We have not heard anything official or from other companies since then..but it is rumored that they (Sony and marvel) worked out a merchandising deal where any marvel characters appearing in spider-man (mk47, happy, stark, pepper) could be used under that license with profit sharing of some sort and vise Vera’s for any Spider-Man characters used in marvel films. It makes sense given how quickly the film deal was struck that they used a very simple merchandising deal to start then amended it to better suit both companies.

Their shipping is all over the place. Apprentance and some others get charged $20-$25 and takes a week. I get charged usually about $10-$13 and it takes 3 days. Hulkbuster was $25. I have no idea how they figure out what to charge. It's just weird.
Prob you are close to where Sideshow is, thus cheaper and faster delivery.

Screw Sideshow, order from TimeWalker.

Real nice thing to say on the Sideshow Freaks Forum, where the main discussions are about Sideshow products.
If you don't like them, maybe you need to find a different forum. There is a better way to express displeasure without the derogatory comment.
