I think this hobby is the only one where weight is considered better. Most everything else like cars, phones, aircraft, tools, bikes, etc lighter is considered higher tech and better quality

Those are all very different things and it’s certainly subjective based on what that item is.

I was mostly speaking just in terms of premium items (like collectibles) people hold in their hands, and to the fact that we’re tactile creature by nature.

Humans don’t pick up cars, motorcycles, aircraft, etc. to assess quality by weight. Certainly lighter is better for performance and fuel economy, but premium cars have leather and soft touch materials and wood or metal trim which all adds weight to the detriment of performance because people like the look and feel.

Even phones could be made lighter if they were all plastic but there’s a limit. If an iPhone felt like a cheap plastic flip phone from 15 years ago, they wouldn’t be able to charge what they do for the nice solid feel and heft (relative to a phone’s weight) with aluminum and glass and steel components.

Wouldn't matter if the suit is made of nano tech, liquid metal or rubber. If it looks like fabric in the movie, it will be made of fabric for the figure.

It doesn't look like fabric in the movie at all, and it wasn't meant to. hence "IRON Spider" :dunno

Honestly, I'm fine with whatever material they use as long as it hides most of the joints... People want this to be like an Iron Man figure yet the joints would be so obvious, most would complain about that too. I know I would like it significantly less if the elbow, shoulder, knee, hip/waist joints and ab crunch were all super visible. The suit was seamless yet flexible in the movie, and IMO this is the best choice to get close to that look. But i'm one of the collectors that values screen accuracy over any other feature.

Like I said, it doesn't matter what material it's made of in the movie. It looks like fabric and acts like fabric in our world, the figure's suit is going to be made from fabric.

Just because it’s called iron spider doesn’t mean it’s metal. I mean is it “iron”? It just means it’s built by iron man. It’s the name of a comic outfit that is 10000% fabric based. And even if it’s nanotech which we don’t know, that still doesn’t mean it has to be metal. And, even if it is some high tech metal alloy, it can still be fabric. Like black panther, his suit is made of the same crap that Captain America’s shield is. Metal can be fabric in the MCU. Don’t recall anyone asking for black panther figure to be made like iron man.

And again, calling it iron spider doesn’t mean it’s metal. Expecting that would also mean you expect it to be iron. Otherwise you have to recognize it’s a name with no direct relation to the material it’s made of. Is black panther suit made of panthers? Is the homecoming suit made of spiders? The name doesn’t tell you what an items made of.

Long winded point taken... Doesn't change the fact that it's not fabric in the movie. And the comic book Iron Spider armor is 10000% NOT fabric based.

Like I said, it doesn't matter what material it's made of in the movie. It looks like fabric and acts like fabric in our world, the figure's suit is going to be made from fabric.

I get what you mean now... The first time you said "If it looks like fabric in the movie, it will be made of fabric for the figure." So I was confused as I don't think it looks like fabric in the movie at all, but I do understand what you mean by it behaving like fabric in the way it flexes. So I do agree with you there.

Yes it does there, but It was explained in the comics that it's nano-tech among other sorts of technology. I'm not going to go through my civil war books to find the exact quoted source, but a wiki search says the same thing.

Fabricated with advanced protein-scale nano-technology and exotic materials handling, LEP skin display, impact sensing armor integrated life support ant all-spectrum communications powered by a hybrid opto-electronic computer and using super conducting, high performance plastic throughout

I can't remember if that's quoted directly from the civil war comics or not, but it sounds familiar.

In the film it appears to form in the same way Tony's suit does so I'd assume it's Nanotech. Also, worth noting that the mask goes away in the same way that Tony's does so kind of funny that there are pics of him holding a mask for the figure. I'm assuming they just didn't know it would behave that way.

In any case, there isn't a metal out there that works the way the film does so they could have went joint exposed plastic/diecast or fabric suit where there may be creases or stresses. It seems like everyone has a different preference and there is no right or wrong answer. If I'm honest I likely would have purchased it whichever direction they went.

You are right that it’s nanotech in the comics for sure. But that does not mean it’s not fabric based. It is much more like black panthers suit, both in the comics and on screen, then iron mans. Fabric doesn’t mean it’s gotta be spandex or cotton. Just that it’s a woven type material. We know for sure that black panthers suit is “metal” in the mcu and yet it’s fabric.

I don’t have a preference about what it is, either way. Just stating what I think it is, not what I want it to be. Thing could be made out of adamantium or vibranium or wood for all I care.

As for the helmet thing...pretty sure black panthers did the same. Either way, nanotech doesn’t have to be “metal” like iron man and can be a fabric suit like black panther, which is for sure metal. Black panther has a better stronger metal costume and looks more like a Spider-Man suit then iron man.
