I don't nor did I plan on selling my IW Thor, I just think it adds a little more to what I own when it's something that's sought after but no longer available. I liken it to the Mk47, that armor got so much hate. Personally not a fan myself. But I think that it's awesome for those who loved it and jumped on it despite the hate, to now see the figure being sought after for up to, if not over, $1000.

If IW Thor sold out quick and POs were filled up immediately, cool, make some more to meet the demand. But this was available for so long. That should've been enough time to decide whether this figure was "worthy" or not.

Ah, the 47. Another candidate for reissue.

Yeah, with IW Thor, tons of responses were, I’ll wait for the updated End Game version with the proper Stormbreaker.”

& then the same people got mad that “scalpers” are making profit once it sold out. The figure was sitting on shelves for half a year begging to be purchased.

I do see both sides to the argument, however, and in the end, the creme always rises, and this Thor will hold its value even with a complete reissue.

The market is already over saturated with hot toys without a rerelease. I bet they make thousands of these things unlike limited statues. No one expected them to do to Thor what they did in endgame. None of these toys are gonna make us a millionaire.

I realize that I am in the minority, but with the premium prices that we pay for these figures,
They should be limited to one run. If you missed out on a figure, too bad. I have been there, and I paid up
To get the figures I missed out on. I am not saying number these or anything like that, but saying that
They should be limited to one full production run is not an unreasonable request.

I could give two ****s less about the scalpers, but I am not in this to collect mainstream figures
That are readily available. I want my investments to at least have some value, and not be devalued by
The very company I purchased them from... When they could simply release endgame Thor.
There was no real reason to reissue this OR the Mark 50 again.

‘Investments’. No wonder you feel the way you do. Hot Toys are mainstream. Hot Toys are readily available. Maybe the super limited custom stuff is more your bag?

My waitlist converted tonight. Looks like in conjunction with back on preorder.

Wooohooooo

I think they may be manufacturing more of them :yess:. Mine converted and the ship date is Aug 2019 - Oct 2019!!:gah:

I'm ok with a rerelease because a lot of people probably want fit Thor in their collection. I wouldn't mind picking up a 2nd one to display the bare arms but I just don't have the money for that.

Investments? I have been collecting figs for 30 years. If you are looking at investments, maybe you are putting your money in the wrong places. Equity, stocks, property, crypto are your best bets. I don't collect hoping that my stuff can one day fetch me a good profit. The last purge cost me $3K in losses, that the reality of things. I enjoy a good steady income on my "investments" though. Not to disagree with your opinion by the way.

I missed out on the Infinity War Thor as well and was hoping to get the EG Thor, but after the show, I didn't quite like EG than Infinity. So the re-issue really helps. I just PO this morning.

I'm sure I'll be laughed off the thread (and rightfully so to an extent) but if anyone's got one they're willing to part with for $350 or so plus the shipping I'd be down to buy from 'ya, kind of kicking myself for selling the first one I had, thinking we'd get a similar release for Endgame when we'll just be getting the fatass version if they make one. :(

It’ll only cost you $267+shipping and patience.

Great news on the re-issue

I'll wait for the Jpn sellers on ebay like Loonten & Timcent to get them back up at reasonable prices.

Free shipping from them & always marked down to avoid Customs fees means it's cheaper for me than buying from Sideshow

So glad I don't have to stump up scalper money now.

I agree with a number of the recent posts. Completely dislike the idea of reissuing any figure, and particularly dislike how Hot Toys go about it. I mean, c'mon guys. This Thor came out in 2018 and has basically been a shelf-warmer over on the SS site for months now. Nobody should be allowed to use the phrase "missed out" for this one. Not that I want to see collectors miss out on figures, but it's just part of the hobby. Similarly, Hulkbuster was up for pre-order for like 3 years and then people acted completely surprised that Hot Toys didn't make a ton of extra stock of an $800+ figure. If they're going to reissue figures, they could at least reissue stuff that sold out almost immediately after release, like Tech Suit Spidey or Yondu. Or stuff that sells out in pre-order like the upcoming 1/4 Joker. For me, that's what rubs me the wrong way more than anything.

Also someone earlier mentioned that Hot Toys figures are mainstream. What? Funko Pops are mainstream--you basically can't go to any chain store without tripping over mountains of those dumb Pops. Console video gaming is mainstream. In contrast (and anecdotal, I know) I have still never met a person in real life who has even heard of Hot Toys before. And I've seen the same sentiment on this forum and from plenty of YouTubers as well in regards to the importance of these online communities. So yeah, I don't see what's wrong with wanting your collection to maintain its value. Mine certainly has in spades thus far. For me it's always been one of the perks of collecting these figures as opposed to spending money on things that depreciate like cars or electronics.

Anyway, my waitlist converted a couple days before they announced this and already have him on the way. Glad to have a second figure to display in his alternate look. But personally I would have waited till this fall to get my second one if I had known they were reissuing it because of all the other stuff I have hitting right now, so slightly annoyed about it personally from that perspective.

Nothing wrong with wanting your collection to have some value, but if the only value that matters to you is monetary...

I'm sorry, but comments like this are so hyperbolic. Clearly the vast majority of collectors care more about their figures as physical items than just about their monetary value. Every time I see someone post "oh well if you're buying them for investments maybe you should just focus on stocks" I roll my eyes so far back in my head I get a migraine because clearly they are taking the other person's comments to the utter extreme. But it's the internet, I get how there can be no middle ground on a topic. As I mentioned, it's a perk and one I think most collectors would agree on. Even all the collecting podcasts I listen to, such as the MISB podcast and the Sixth Scale Scavengers podcast, they all often and repeatedly discuss the topic of figures in their collections losing or gaining monetary value. It's part of the hobby.

Not saying the only concern is monetary, but if that's your primary concern enough to rant ad nauseam anytime hot toys is going to do a reissue then as said above you're going to have a bad time.

If you're not attempting to play the Hot Toys market then why be mad about secondhand value at all? Only instance I can see is for people buying at high prices and then getting mad when they can be found cheaper later.

I've over paid on some figures. I've under paid on some figures. At the end of the day I laid down cash because I wanted them in my collection. If they're worth a dollar tomorrow I'll still like them.

Because there is a direct correlation between a figure's aftermarket value and it's cache/appreciation in the community, and as a lover of these figures as pieces of art it personally bugs me to see figures become overproduced and not get the recognition they deserve. Mark 47 and TFA Rey are both excellent examples. Literally no one thought the Mark 47 was anything special while it was still in stock everywhere, but then as soon as it sold out and skyrocketed in value you have all these collectors saying it's their favorite Iron Man ever. Would people still be saying that if it were only a $400 figure still? I have a hard time believing that. A good contrast is the Rey/BB-8 set which is going for like half its original price. That's a pretty amazing figure set with tons of accessories, yet hardly anyone mentions it nowadays in terms of a being a great figure because everyone thinks about it as a bargain bin figure. Surely you see where I'm coming from with this.

I think we may be arguing two different things. I totally agree with you that a figure holding or increasing in value can add to owning or wanting a figure.

My arguement is that if monetary value is your primary concern over owning the figure in the first place then you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Look at something like modern star wars collecting. Things are reissued many times over and sometimes just flat out made obsolete by newer versions (or different scales in the case of black series). They're made in numbers where there is no way they'll inflate to say Vintage era star wars collectibles price level, but people still buy them plenty.

What I'm getting at is that while I understand theres an allure to having something valuable in your collection I don't think that should be overshadowing your other reasons for collecting.

I was selling mine used. I bought it and had it for months I have problems with the figure so I wanted to part ways if someone else wanted it more than me. Basically if they want it cause it sold out and they’re don’t want it to rise in price I’m fine with selling it and getting an endgame one or not having a Thor period. Preordered it right away. The reason people buy it is cause it may sell out. If hot toys is going to reissue and let stock sit for months like IW Thor then wait for a sale. Now the value has dropped so it is annoying because if theyre going to make this many and it’s not going to sell out and when it finally does they’re going to re issue then I should just buy them discounted or used for cheaper because there isn’t demand.
