BvS was ripped apart by critics savagely to the point of going way overboard- which I think kept some people away from seeing it- so it fell short of the high box office mark. All the audiences I saw it with clearly enjoyed it.
JL was a wreck because Snyder was pulled and WB screwed it up to try to Marvel-ize it. However the opening weekend was sub-standard so clearly too much negativity from BvS kept audience interest even lower. Snyder's vision wasn't what the Marvelized superhero approach audiences wanted

It was brought to my attention that, according to numbers jl had better legs than BvS and a better cinema score.

When comparing the two together. Justice league had a better multiplier throughout its theatrical run than BvS. BvS had that crazy drop after that first weekend.
So by numbers, Justice League was more acceptable to audiences than BvS ever was.

I'm in the minority here but I really enjoyed BVS far more than WW *shrugs* The Martha scene didn't bother me much, as well.

BVS was definitely a victim of early reviews and Rotten Tomatoes score meter. I could number a dozen of terrible movies that made bank.

BvS IMO is the best DCEU movie released so far(especially the ultimate cut), WW is a close second. I kinda wish JL maintained that darker tone, or at least for Batman, since it did set it apart from the MCU.

Well it didn't help BvS that the version they put out in theatres was significantly inferior to the ultimate edition we got later. I can see why people were confused by the theatrical cut. Another dumb decision on WB behalf.

I'd bet JL would have been a lot better had they let Zack put out his version of the film instead of cutting it to pieces for a shorter running time and adding all the forced comedy Whedon shot.

Yeah the BVS theatrical version was choppy as hell and didn't flow well at all. The critics may have enjoyed ripping it apart a little too much, but I can still totally understand the poor score it got, as I didn't really care for it either.

But even that was better than JL, which I still haven't worked up the nerve to see again. I've tried rewatched a few scenes on Youtube (even the ones with WW), and they actually come across even more cheesy and cringeworthy than before. And plus I just can't bare to watch Cavill's Superman get turned into some horrible CG face monster again.

a lot of JL was cringe, especially happy Batman when Supes shows up. Im not really a Snyder fan but he should have finished it. Whedon taking up the reigns was a huge mistake.

The Bus theatrical version should be made illegal. The extended cut is soooo much better. It's the only version to see. Even the late great John Schnepp changed his mind on it being a bad movie after seeing the extended cut.

So if you haven't seen the extended cut go do yourself a favour.

Totally agree with the comments about JL being taken from Snyder. The dark tone of his movies were great, more gritty and different to Marvel style. Perhaps the viewing public are somewhat to blame, as the change for JL to be more Marvel-like could have come from audience feedback ?? Hard to say ??

To me I would have stayed the course of dark style and added in some humour, but not Marvel humour.

MoS and BvS are the only Snyder movies I've liked, and I thoroughly enjoyed those. Theatrical cut of BvS wasn't nearly as good as the EC, but also not nearly as bad as critics wanted it to be. WB lost faith though, and Snyder's Superman trilogy suffered for it. JL just doesn't quite work. The awkward reshoots, bad cgi, lame quips, and horrible soundtrack are all signs of directing by committee rather than through vision. Snyder, whether liked or not, had a vision for the DCEU and more specifically Superman. I wanted to love JL, but I just can't. It's not the worst super hero movie ever by any means, but it should have been so much better.

Totally agreed- it is aging very well in my eyes. I think in years to come it will be better held in regard

I have enjoyed all the DC movies thus far, except Suicide Squad (too cringe), and just rewatched BVS(extended) and Justice League recently.

MOS was good. Had some issues but definitely my favorite Superman to date even though Reeve holds a special bit of nostalgia in my heart.

BVS was good. Entertaining. Wasn’t a fan of Eisenburg but after repeat watches I get what he was trying to accomplish. Affleck is now my favorite Batman to date even though West will always be Batman to me.

Wonder Woman was good. Definitely picked the right person for the roll. Had some moments I thought were cheesy but overall entertaining. Still in love with Linda Carter.

Justice League was decent. Could have been better with less cringey moments but I liked the overall story, action, and team building. They got a lot right with the casting and camaraderie. I can look past the poor CGI but the one complaint I had was the way Flash ran. He looked like a floppy wet noodle instead of an athletic sprinter.

I think Shazam will be cheesy as hell but I’m still going to watch it. Hope he becomes part of the team.

Aquaman looks like it’s going to be bada$$! Can’t wait.

For me personally, BvS UE is probably still my all time favorite superhero movie.

In the end, the only people to blame is WB. No doubt, instead of being passionate about their movie, they only wanted to see how much money they can get by copying Marvel. Ultimately, JL looked like a Marvel wannabe.
They should have just stuck it out with Snyder.

The reason Snyder's movie is never gonna make $$$ like Marvel is that:
His movies are darker in tone, and not kid friendly. I had a couple of friends ask me that they heard the BvS was pretty dark and asked for my opinion if its a movie that they can take their kids to. They were surprised when I said nope...I wouldnt take a kid to see it.
He tends to make bold, creative decisions in his movie, that many people love, but also drive fanboys go nuts. He doesnt take the safe route.
Superman snapping Zod's neck, Batman killing people, Superman dies in the end, etc.

Look at all these disney family movies, besides even Marvel, making $$$$ in the box office.
So you take kids out of the equation to see Snyder's movies, plus...Add to that, his movies leave a lot of fans bickering for his creative decisions...and you can see that, his movies are not gonna make the same amount of money as Marvel movies, which tend to take the safe route. Marvel makes movies for everyone.
Zack's movies are not for everyone.
So for it to make $850 million for BvS, you can see its actually not bad at all.

But all WB cares, is how to break the billion dollar zone like Marvel did, so they hired Whedon, who I personally think is overrated.
And fired the guy who is responsible for:
A) Finding the best Superman since Christopher Reeve. Think about that. There have been many Superman since Reeve, but the torch was never passed until Henry.
B) Brought the perfect Wonder Woman to the screen. Not since Linda Carter...again, another torch that hasnt been passed since the 70's.
C) Brought the best Batman I've seen in BvS.
I ate crow big time. I was with the masses who cried when they heard Affleck was Batman. Then saw BvS, and finally got to see the Batman I've loved in the "The Dark Knight Returns" comic book, come alive in the movie screen.

WB people are insane. They should be thanking Snyder instead of firing him.

My precise sentiments also, just about word for word.

I will never disagree with what Snyder has done with casting, design, and feel. But I do question story elements. I do question character elements.

But I will always agree that the dceu is visually just beautiful. I will always agree up until JL, that dceu has some of the most memorable and beautiful score to films.

They always had style over the marvel films as the marvel films all sound, look, and feel the same.

My THOUGHTS exactly- so good to hear I'm not the only voice in the wilderness who loved what Snyder braved to do- and WB (at first) for letting him do it

You make some very good points regarding Snyder's positive contributions, and I too think JL would have been better if he had been allowed to finish it. But you seem to have glossed over the fact that his daughter committed suicide and he stepped down to grieve with his family. While it's true prior to that WB intrusively brought in Whedon to help him rework the film (& bring it in at a 2 hour run time), he wasn't fired. The alternative to going forward without Zack would have been to shelve the film until he felt ready to return, likely losing hundreds of millions of $$ in the process. Obviously that was never going to happen. In the end WB got exactly what they deserved, a film that was reworked in a rushed manner that was something that neither Zack nor Joss would be willing to call their own distinct vision of the Justice League.

I dunno, I thought a lot of the rumours said WB used that tragedy as an excuse to get rid of Snyder. The fact that he didn't attend any of the premieres, still has never watched the movie they put out and has detailed how his vision was changed entirely speaks volumes. There is no reason they couldn't have delayed the movie until spring/summer 2018 to allow him the time to finish the movie properly.

If they were going to rush things just to meet that original release date the very least they could have done was stay true to Zack's vision for the movie. They changed almost everything by inserting all those Marvel style gags, removing his soundtrack and overall tone completely, cut out a lot of important scenes from Cyborg and Flash just to cut the running time etc. I think he has every reason to be disgusted with how WB treated him.

I do not pretend MoS and BvS had no issues, Snyder has always been a divisive film maker. I enjoyed those movies, especially BvS but no doubt they had some issues regarding script and pacing. They are though visually stunning, distinct in tone and consistent with each other. Green lighting JL then attempting to change tone three quarters of the way through production made absolutely no sense. They were never going to win over the haters, all they succeeding in doing was alienating the fans who enjoyed the previous two movies.

I really don't think kids not going is an issue. The 89 Batman mode truck loads of money and was pretty dark and edgy for the time. Batman Returns even darker. I wasn't even aloud to watch Batman Returns until I was older. Besides, people take their kids to Deadpool these days.

And let's not forget, BvS DID make a ton of money. It was the critics and adults that had issues with the his movies.
