The way I see it as "grounded in reality" is that if we were visited by a species from another planet, we would be frightened by them and what they can do. As for the tights and cape, it could be that it is the attire of those living on his home world and he wears it to honour his family name. Even though it isn't realistic, it's still believable in a way.

That's the thing--it's a comic book movie.

That's never an excuse for it to be dumbed down, even if the scenario is one of the fantastic. Good is good and none of what you describe bothers me in the least.

well... no matter what... it could be A LOT WORSE

Yea it's pretty crazy what they were thinking back then for a superman suit. However I think this one would've went pretty great with Burton's Batman:

Though I do like Cage in a lot of his films I don't think he would've been right for the role of Superman. I do like this suit though for a 90's flick as a Burton Universe superman just not with Cage in it

That suit isn't awful. Cage was the wrong choice ... but I don't dislike him altogether. He's in quite a few movies I like -- The Rock, Face/Off, Family Man, Con Air, National Treasure. All watchable.

There was another suit for a JJ Abrams Superman movie that also didn't look terrible ...

Extra hands, a base, and hopefully the heat vision headsculpt everyone has been begging for since this got announced.
I'd also say that he's probably coming with the fortress key

I agree with your list of Nic Cage flicks. I dig all of those especially Face/Off and Con Air.

Never saw that Abrams suit. Doesn't look bad at all. Looks more like the New 52 suit than what we see in MoS. Still love what we are getting with MoS the most though from all the suits that have been developed for the big screen beside the classic Reeve suit.
