Dwibzle. The HT Alien is in no way accurate. It's not a matter of conjecture or opinion. It's a fact. It's still a very cool figure though.

I wouldn't even bother if it were all about people bragging about what they own, how boring.

No, I never said debate was a bad thing.
I said that there seemed to be no flaming up of the debate again, so the worries about the thread going back into another downward spiral seemed unfounded.

No...not at all. It looks like the ADI Aliens, and not a single thing like the Giger Alien. It doesnt. That's a fact. You can still like it...but that is why most people hate it.

My buddy Reverend, from The Hive, has just completed his customizing on his Hot Toys Alien.

Here's what he did...

"Well i can sleep now im finished my kitbash/custom hot toys big chap
mods include: reshape the dome (heat gun from inside and push it out)
resculpted the chin tubes
reshapede hands /split fingers
a total repaint and gloss
new inner jaw ( from a old halcyon 1/5 kit- i know its a lil big but he's well hung lol)
cant thanks sabres enough. more picts in my photobucket page

Got my Big Chap Alien today. Yes, there are inaccuracies, but I still really like this figure. The overall look of the figure is great (in my opinion) and it is still a really great Alien, just not a really great Giger Alien. However to say it looks nothing like the original Alien is, I think, a bit too far. When I look at the Big Chap I see that it is clearly based off the Giger design as opposed to the creatures from the other films.

Are you kidding me?? It looks more like the Predator than an Alien! Actually, the predator looks closer to Giger's Alien than the hot toys figure! I had no idea what I was looking at when I saw the hot toys figure!

I don't really understand how you can you make a rational decision when it's based on photos.

Your loss man; I really think you're missing out big time.

You guys call yourselves ALIEN fans and then you outright reject one of the best figure on the planet, I don't get it at all, you should be jumping for joy that you can get something new for your collections.

thanks for the welcome! i have lurked for years and finally decided i had something to say. only fitting that it would be about the big chap given my own history.

first of all photos offer plenty of evidence that the figure is in no way satisfactory to what i would personally want in an ALIEN figure. second of all i have seen it in person at my local sci fi/ horror shop. still not buying.

like i said its a great looking figure. just not an accurate one. it just does not look like what it is based on enough to my eye to justify picking it up. furthermore, when i compare the work here to some of hot toys other offerings my dissapointment only increases. so close yet so very far. besides i dont have the kind of expendable income right now to spend on such a flawed effort. im still trying to scape together the cash for dx 1 and 2!

as far as your super long multi quote post above, i have read most of this thread already but thanks. and my mind is made up and my opinion is very clear from my post. not at all "all over the joint" as you say.

i do not claim to be an expert, only someone who has eyeballs and a life long love of the original alien and hr giger. my old vhs copy actually snapped from being paused for inspection so often and my original copy of gigers alien is thrashed and trashed. i am an artist and i have been drawing and sketching the big chap for more than 20 years. in fact i have probably drawn more aliens in my life than anything else except maybe batman and joker ( not to mention the human form, thank you r lund's life drawing) in fact i often use an alien sketch to warm up when drawing.

and yes, no alien sculpt is perfect. but some are clearly closer than others. see marmit, medicom, neca, and a little 30 year old hunk of plastic by kenner for reference. some (like alv) want to claim there is just not enough material out there to make an accurate sculpt or that lighting and fx had something to do with the shape and proportion of the creature. thats just silly and i'm not buying it and i ( and some others) know better. in fact anyone with a copy of the movie should know better (preferably your copy is not vhs )

like i said before: anyone who owns and enjoys this figure is a lucky person. more power to you! im glad you like it and i am jealous of the satisfaction you enjoy from it. but im not feeling it for the reasons previously mentioned. my fingers are crossed neca lets tank do a 1/6 scale version. or maybe ill pick up the medicom if i can find a good price so i dont feel too bad about repainting the whole thing. but this version by hot toys is just too far off the mark and too far below my personal standards to get behind.

i have clearly stated my opinion twice now. it is unwavering and rock solid so before this thread devolves once again into a mess lets just let it stand, hmmmn? im not going to change my mind and some are just not going to see what im getting at. shake hands, move on.

so how about some more pictures of that wonderful custom job?

I don't understand the argument that 'you'll never get it to look like the many different heads of the alien used on the film'....ok so how about making it look like ONE of them, y'know, as opposed to NONE of them. I would have preferred that.
