Too me all those Troopers look cluttered. A shelf of scaled 1/6 figures looks much better IMHO.

Thats one of the reasons why I chose to focus mainly on 1/6th stuff. Wanted all the characters on my shelves to fit in more or less. Have some smaller stuff like NECA TMNT and Wallase and Gromit figures, but main focus is 1/6th

There is a focus to that Stormtrooper display though, which I like. It's not like he's put a random selection of different sizes and figures - it's a loving homage to the design of the Stormtrooper, which is why I love it.

There's a difference in your Stormie shelf and what Evilface is talking about. Like you said, the focus of that grouping is "Stormtroopers", and it looks great with such a vast variety of sizes and interpretations.

But if your focus is just "Star Wars 1/6" and everything is the same scale til you reach the one short Stormtrooper, then it looks out of place. Of course if you included all the other SW Medi's in there as well, then the collection as a whole will look okay since the scale differences will dissipate with the quantity.

And like karamazov said, if there is too much variety with a grouping with no real focus then it just looks messy and cluttered.

Oh, and I think the Big Chap is great, inaccuracies and all. I think it's close enough as far as the detail because overall it has the same great feel of Ridley's Alien. I'm keeping an eye out for a super sale though. I just can't afford it right now. I got Kane for about $75 last year and I'm hoping for the same good fortune to come my way!

I take your point, but where I think it gets a tad obsessive is when people dismiss a beautiful piece out of hand, purely because it's the "wrong" size.

Surely you don't have to display everything in one place? Why not popa little Medicom on a bookcase somewhere, or have something on your desk at work?

It just baffles me that people would say "That Medicom Alien is awesome! But it's a couple of inches two short, so..."

I guess what I'm saying is, why focus on scale, and miss out on cool stuff?

I agree, I think you'll find it for less in time. I was gonna wait, then placed a bid I thought for sure I would lose... so I ended up with this a bit early and for about an average price.

I think HT made very few of these though, so it is possible that the price will rise in time. That may be a year from now though. I'm still thinking it will dip further down as retailers need to get rid of this guy to make room for all the new summer stock.

Then too, once Ridley's new movie is near release, we may see HT take yet another stab at the original alien. Maybe. They certainly could improve it.

they're all about the same really. it's one of the cheapest to buy though.
and i haven't heard about it disintegrating on the shelf like some of the older ones do.

if you don't care about accuracy, you're better off getting the McFarlane figure. it goes for less than $75 too.

This is old news and will get lost in the T-800 explosion, but...

I got my A L I E N today

Nothing I can add that hasn't been said.

GREAT paintwork. BEST alien by HT. Yes, the jaw is off (well, the whole head), but I was much more impressed by the fogged dome than I thought I would be. Everything from the head down is just awesome! Maybe not accurate, but just so cool, even to the touch.

Pic for scale, fresh out of the box...

I have not really toyed with it yet, tomorrow I need to read the instructions...

But I definitely want to fixed the mouth closed...

Maybe not this close up but in-hand the closed mouth ROCKS! Got a real GRIN that just seems more like the alien to me.

I don't see using the tongue much, and its a bit wonky anyway. Plus, those little tiny tendons are gonna break, I just know it.

I think that would help alot.

Not sure what to do to the close-mouth grin. Maybe I could add the translucent teeth-guard thing that pulls back, place it recoiled on that space between the teeth and dome. Maybe that would help.

Painting the gums white might also help. I think Les did that.

I wish the face had at least been scary looking. I might have bought innaccurate but 'scary' or innaccurate but 'freaky'. That face just doesn't make me feel anything.

Has anyone tried adding slime to his face to mask how innaccurate it is and yet also recreate a very iconic look from the film?

I would really love to see someone attempt this. I think it would look pretty incredible if done right.

I have been planning on doing the silver leafing to the teeth and nails, I just haven't gotten around to it. And since my head points straight down it's not really a big deal because it would be hard to see.

That being said if a successful slime is added to the mouth, then I would be compelled to do the mod.

You could really put the slime on thick and it would be accurate to the film. There were some shots if I recall correctly where you can hardly even make out the teeth such is the density of white or yellow goop on the Alien's face. I mean the more of the HT face you can hide under slime the better. The later alien films made the slime much more liquidy and clear than it was in the first film.
