The Big Chap's nice. The Cinemaquette is very nice. Me, I'm actually quite pleased with my NECA Alien (though the shape isn't exactly right, he does give off a good A L I E N vibe).

Why bother arguing over something like this when Giger himself designed the creature and anyone else sculpting it is bound to do their own interpretation, whether for personal or legal reasons?

There have been so many classic Alien figures done in the past 30 years that it's amazing anyone's still surprised that *gasp* they look different! Duh. Of course they do. They all do. Pick your favorite. Just don't get aggressive with your own opinions and arguments when many of the figs on that list are quite nice just the way they are. We're collectors, right?

Perhaps unsurprisingly to some people who know of my obsession with their T2 line, NECA's Alien is my favourite of what I have.

However I only collect poseable figures so that rules out things like busts and statues. I have NECAs, McFarlane's and that little Kenner one but I don't even count that tbh. Hot Toys would have been the other. Too much money in an already expensive year for a figure that looks less like the source material than my cheap low-end figures. If merely the face had been more accurate it would have been a guaranteed purchase.

lol, NECA's great. Especially for that pricepoint. All of those are great, in fact.

It all depends on what it is you're into. Whether it's high-end, low-end, whether you have a preferred company or brand, or which one plain looks best to you. Personal taste. Pick your favorite from that list that was necro-quoted on the other page, and you're guaranteed to be happy. That's all that matters .

Toying with my alien, got some questions for you guys...

1. can you pop off the head?

2. what's with the shoulder articulation? Not much there as far as pulling his arms out aay from his side. I see under the rubber shoulder skin there a clear plastic ball over the base shoulder joint which restricts movement.

The shoulders aren't rubber... or rather they are but the rubber doesn't have anything to do with how the shoulder articulation works. It's a ball-in-socket joint. The arm can move out about 35º from the body from the shoulder.

The head I don't think could come off without some sort of more complicated disassembly.

Thanks, that's helpful. I just don't want to force anything, it's so fragile.

As to the shoulder, I pulled the "rubber" shoulder away to reveal the "ball socket" and I see that there's some sort of clear addition over the ball socket, seems to restrict the movement as far as pulling the arms away from its sides. Wasn't sure if this was a design to deliberately keep you from bending the shoulders too far out or if mine is just 'stuck' in some way. I sure can't get 35 degrees out of it. Maybe 15 tops. One arm has more give than the other. Anyway, just curious is this was standard or a problem with mine.

Don't all the HT aliens have that clear piece in the sockets?

Not sure, I never looked, just mine seems very restrictive. Watched some YouTube vids and I see its just the way its made.

Just trying some lighting things...

Well, my big chap has joined the not so exclusive club of "damaged goods". I'm unsure when it happened, but the rubber suit separated from the tail, leaving a gap. I contacted Alter Ego about possibly getting a replacement, and they're looking into it for me.
