What irks is people stubbornly refusing to acknowledge any inaccuracies, and seemingly accusing people who really do know these things of nit-picking, or inventing them. These are expensive pieces, and when Hot Toys are claiming it's accurate, it's obviously going to annoy people when it patently isn't.

Agreed. Sure, people are overexaggerating when they say it looks "nothing" like the Alien, but all these arguments about it looking "good enough" would be fine if we were talking about a regular action figure, or even at the $50-75 range... at $200, I don't think there should be any complaints, really.

$200? You're overpaying. And heck, people drop over 2 grand for Cinemaquettes, more than half of which look more like a clone with down syndrome than the actual actor/character they're supposed to represent.

You know what's funny? I think that out of the entire Alien/Aliens and the xenos from AVP/AVPR by HT (many, many figures), only the Power Loader and Dallas have been exceptionally accurate. The rest, not so much.

The Big Chap ain't so bad. It isn't great, but it's not the worst thing ever.

People pay $300.00 or more for the Marines yet don't complaint as much regarding the inaccuracies...
I understand people want it to be perfect, but there's not such thing...
Just look at how much people whined about the Joker and DK Bats...

I saw an empty hicks box go for about $100.00 once. So paying $200.00 and theres a figure inside is an amazing deal for some people. :lol

Seriously. I bought the figure expecting this:

thinking--"if anyone could kill Alien. . ." Needless to say, I was disappointed.

:lol it's so nice to feel understood. my wrestling references are lost on these boards. what happened to all the dumb goofballs like me that dig dudes fake-beating each other up?

I actually think the body is great. It's the head which doesn't really capture the essence of the creature. And that's really all I'm looking for. The details don't actually matter that much, it's more that it gives the impression of what we saw in the movie. The head, and especially the jaws/teeth are a large part of that, because we saw them in close up. And what we saw was gleaming chrome teeth and black gums. The Revoltech figure, although tiny, pulls off the overall shape of the mouth:

Hell, even the Kenner figure does! The Hot Toys one though, the tendons around the mouth, the teeth, etc, etc. They don't give the feel of the Alien we saw in the film. At least, they don't for me. It looks as if the artist decided to do a lot of detailing that he thought looked cool, without reference to any shots from the film, or from the props. And that's fine, it probably is a cool sculpt. Certainly I was blown away by his talent when I saw the Sculpey original. But it's an artist's impression, when what I'd really lay down $200 for is something that looks like it stepped out of the screen.

Who knows, maybe when we see it posed in classic positions from the film, and with moody lighting, we'll all start falling over ourselves to buy one.
