It's not even about quality, it's just within each manufacturer, prices have increased to about double what they were just a couple years ago.
If you want the prices to go down stop buying them.

Precisely, demand is so high, any part of the price tag that's pure profit margin can be escalated until it hits the point that things stop selling, which it hasn't yet.
However, I think people are reading too much into the price of this John Connor and are taking his price as the new basic figure price, when I really don't see him as a basic figure.

It's unrealistic to look back at Sideshow pricing. Back then they priced all their figures equally. They started out at around $30, and all their figures were $30. That equality remained, until the more recently acquired Star Wars, then variation in pricing began to creep in. You also knew the rarity of their figures by their edition size. You had a better chance to prioritise your spending accordingly. Sideshow, themselves, were in the position of guaging demand and having a production schedule open to quite some chance. Then they have to ship and store their product.
Hot Toys leave practically nothing to chance. They open up their figures to a long pre-order schedule and run production to a tighter demand regime. They know and have sold their edition runs in advance and run newer versions tail to tail. They have the flexibility of adding another production run should pre-order demand be high enough, which is probably why they don't announce their edition sizes. Their money isn't tied up, like much of Sideshows. They can virtually ship from the factory to distributors directly.
Overall I'd say that the cost of producing a figure, from either company, would easily run no greater than 25% of the retail asking price. Hot Toys costs are way lower than Sideshows, yet Sideshow is able to keep the cost to customers so much lower. How much is the price of fish in China btw?

I remember something similar happening to comic books in the 90's specifically with Valiant comics, like Harbinger #1, Solar #1, each went from $20-$200+ in a few months, but then it just went crazy as nobody cared anymore, then the prices plummeted back down to almost nothing. I don't know if the analogy is the same, but something similar could happen if companies keep leeching customers for no other reason than they just "can" which is lame.

My friends got me Eternal Warrior #4 (the first appearance of Bloodshot) for my 11th birthday I believe...
The thing about the Valiant analogy though is that with comic books, second market prices are dictated by fans and well retailers, not the publishers themselves. People were paying $200+ for Harbinger #1 but Valiant put it out at $3.
It is too bad that prices are rising, but as someone who started out with Medicom products, the prices are still relatively manageable

Yea I guess you're right. Despite the price I think JC is worth it. I remember thinking Optimas Prime was expensive for $40 in 1984 (which he was, but I didn't care, I was 8)

I agree that Version 2 is worth the price... But having a pre-order for the Cop Joker, wanting the new Batman, and still needing to do a kit-bash Bourne... Well you have to choose your battles. I'll still buy him, but I'll definitely have to do away with the accessories to cushion the blow.
It's too bad that I actually prefer this outfit over the other one or I'd just go ahead and buy V1...

Have to say I'm not really digging the look of his outfit... seems to fit awkwardly. I imagine though that it will be tightened up for the final release. Love the base and Hydrobot though... too bad you can't buy those pieces separately to add to the original figure.
The figure is decent enough. I prefer sinking my cash into other lines besides T:S. I have the figs I wanted therefore, I can easily pass on another JC.

Even though the price is extremely high, I'll probably get suckered in to buying this one too. Ever since I first watched T2 as a kid, the action figure I always wanted was a John connor with the scar on his face.

I haven't taken the time to go over the whole thread, but shouldn't that base have come with the first version of John Connor as well as the Hydobot?
I'm getting a T-700 (molten T-800 or what ever it's suppose to be now), and I think this version of Connor will go the best with it.

The gun,base, and hydrobot probably should've. But its an extremely easy swap if youre buying both figures. The t-700 is it's own model.
The hydrobot really goes with neither outfit, he was in a traditional military shirt, t-shirt and pants when he fought them.
The base belongs more with v1 and the rifle's should be swapped.
