Not really. When you look at Batman, there aren't different types of plastics. It's just the rubber suit decomposing. Pants and top were made from the same rubber. :lol

DX02.
Abs armor and suit are different (They switched the rubbery Abs armor to hard plastic with later batches). Shoulder/upper arms outer piece differ from the base suit as well, leaks.

From the very first run to the last, DX02 leaked. The abs and the pants on the initial run were identical - yet leaking. Comedian's shirt is falling apart. So are his elbow pads. How many different rubber parts are those made up of? One per? Thought so. :lol

^ Comedians elbow pads: 2 materials, Rubber & Plastic backing are in contact with the PVC arms. The rubber split due to stress for being bent too long.

Bandito do you work for HT or something? I've never seen someone correct people over bodies and materials everything is made of.

It's not the PVC that's causing the issue. Do me a favor. Stop polesquatting for HT and have a read at the Leaky DX02 thread. Then come back with a redeveloped opinion on what's causing the issue. :wink1:

In any case fellas ....
I'm slightly off topic here , but what abt the TDK mms 071 suit eh ? That be the toughest rubber suit I've come accross.

I've been posing him like a contortionist and damn that rubber suit is resilient, sure after 2 yrs being owned he lost most of that abs paintjob , but the crotch armpit rubber remains as tight and thick as virgin.

HT did something right there.

My Comedians whole back is wet now!!! Been cleaning him off ever now and again... Rubber is still holding on... No rips in it yet and it seems not to be melting down as bad as some peoples on here... But I worry that the wetness will no doubt screw with the paint job on the body and cause paint damage to the rest as well...

Just checked my Alien Big Chap and Kane and they are both good. No sign of anything wrong.

I have to wonder what it is that affects some of these figures but not all. Something in the manufacturing happened that only certain batches were affected? A bad vat of rubber injected into the molds? Or is it just a matter of time til they are all falling apart?

I think Hot Toys changed their manufacturing process for the Comedian and the DX02. My previous rubber figures are fine. I don't think all their figures are going to suffer the same fate.

Really a great figure. Sad to hear of these problems.

Buying Rubber body/clothed Hot Toys reminds me of the scene in MM Beyond Thunderdom, when MM spins the wheel to decide his fate.

Ultimately Hot Toys + Rubber fabric/bodies = GULAG

I was a little more worried than normal because tinister had reported their Alien Kane suit had deteriorated in the box.

I was doing a routine inspection of my figures that have been boxed a while and discovered that the rubber spacesuit on my Hot Toys Nostromo Kane has deteriorated. In some places where the suit was in contact with the plastic tray insert - the rubber had become sticky and "melded" with the tray. In areas where the suit wasn't in contact with the tray - the rubber has dried out and cracked. There was also paint flecks everywhere from the paint on the rubber crumbling off.

So I had to removed all of the armor and gear to salvage everything I could. All of the plastic pieces are okay. Most of the nylon straps were toast because they became encrusted with the sticky rubber and melded to the suit.

On the bright side, tinister made a mind-blowing, fantastic fabric spacesuit to replace the rubber one:

(sorry for the tangent)

Just checked on my figure... Same situation. The part underneath the leather flap has started to warp. There is definitely oil. I may just buy the DCD version and try the swap and possibly try the superglue solution for the lower half. My only question is, how do I take his outfit apart? I'm a little paranoid at this point. Any suggestions/directions? :dunno

You'll need to unglue the outer harness, around the belt there is a break point.

Then you'll be able to slip the body out of the suit... unfortunately the upper suit will likely disintegrate upon stretching it to get the body out. You can just remove the torso suit and let the the suit below the waist remain on the body.

I lifted the plastic harness from the rubber suit and I applied some tape underneath the plastic. This ensures that no contact is made from the plastic and the rubber. Only been two days but no oil, we'll see what happens.

I know that there have been many discussions in the DX batman about their attempts but I never had the DX so I never followed the discussion. I did find it odd that all the leaks in that figure seem to come only in the upper body and nothing below where it was all rubber.

My only hope is that contact between the plastic material and rubber is creating some chemical reaction that is increasing the deterioration of the rubber. One thing though, I discovered the leak a few weeks ago when it was first discussed here and I lifted the plastic harness from the rubber and inserted regular paper in between and the oil residue did not return.

I am posting this early since it will take a month or two to see if the leaks continue and some people may want to test this for themselves or at least insert a temporary barrier to prevent further leaks and rubber deterioration.

For what its worth, when I first got him waaaay back, I switched everything to the old style rubber muscle body (Jack Krauser to be exact), and while he's been in stored in my closet this whole time, I decided to finally bite the bullet and check the damage.

Amazingly, the suit was bone dry and as new as the day I got it. I don't expect that to last, but I did wonder if the rubber Krauser body had anything to do with it.

The harness on the other hand was a wet, oily mess.

This was discussed in the Batman threads ad nauseum where people thought removing the belt would relieve the issue. It didn't. While it took immediate pressure off of the parts leaking, it just mostly led to leaking elsewhere or continued leaking at the same location.

UPDATE: Managed to remove the harness and vest successfully. (thank you bandito) The vest is in pretty good condition as it didn't rip while it came off the figure. I'll probably use the superglue on the vest and see how it does on its own, and mod the figure with the dcd version's vest.

The plastic buckles are almost totally exposed from the inside of the vest. Plenty of oil was found....and a small patch of rubber was embedded onto the back of the figure.

I know, Nam. I didn't have the DX batman so I am not sure but aren't the shoulder pads, where leaks where occurring hard plastic? Were parts of the abs plastic? I know the chest area is a hard plastic on top of the rubber.

As I said, this is just a test. I have nothing to loose at this point unless I just wanna throw the figure away. I have to try this experiment on my piece and hope something works.

I hear ya. Good news is someone was making a replacement and if that winds up being too pricey, the DCD Comedian (which can be had for less than $50 if you look hard enough) seemed to be the perfect stand-in.
