I heartily agree. Im actually a very accomplished artist and am going to attempt the same 'repaint' techniques as Ralph. As an artist, in my experienced opinion a lot of this sculpts issues -are- paint. It might not seem that way, but it is. Just look at the proto versus production. I would be very surprised if they made adjustments to the sculpt. To my eyes it is mostly the difference between highly skilled paint application and mass production paint application.
For the rest saying it isnt a dead on likeness of Hugh...as an artist capable of drawing a photorealistic portraits, I can say it is very difficult and time consuming to capture an exact likeness. Most of my fellow artists charge from $500 to several thousand dollars for accurate painted likenesses. With respect, guys, we get a lot for what we pay for when it comes to these figures. Artists invest countless hours to produce these likenesses and its very difficult to do and make money at. $2000 for a painting might sound like a lot but it isnt when you can easily have 100 hours in a painting...and thats not counting materials.
Not trying to nitpick. Im just saying it isnt easy. Where youre seeing the lack of likeness is the product of mass production painting. For $225, this is as close as youre going to get. I wish it wasnt so but its a balance between quality and cost. It may not be a viable solution to many, but unfortunately, to get the results you want it is often best to do something yourself. Painting mods are fairly straightforward with some patience and time. I have a good link to one if anyone is interested to attempt it.
I think Ralph is doing a great job fixing the paint issues. Jackman's face almost appears gaunt in the more recent Logan appearances. His nose doesnt appear thin enough down the bridge. The tip should look almost bulbous in comparrison. His cheekbones arent accentuated enough. Just helow needs more shadow to add that sunken in look. And I think the skin tone is most of the problem. Its much too tan and doesnt show enough flesh tone...like that light peach color.
These are all issues Ralph has adjusted in his PS reference shot. Its a fab start. For everyone's sake I hope HT does tweak the painting application, but for the moment, it is what it is.
