Thats a proto v2 with a mass produced v1 joker. The proto v1 didnt have that ugly hairline that the mass production one had. So its not really a good comparison.

It's like I said before. I just can't justify (nor can they) a $275 price on a rehash. Would I like one? Sure! But I can live with my V1 all day if it means I don't have to rape my account to get the new one. It's just not worth it.

Here is the original prototype and it also had the hairline gap. Not as much as the final product though. The original proto was much better than the final product, and it wasn't just the paint.

Even on the old prototype the hair looked like a separate piece glued on the head. However, the new hairline looks like the DX11, and there is a cut/seam on top of the head where they glued the long strands of hair. Non of the other sculpts had that seam on top. The seam looks even better on the HD pics in the link, the third photo. https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/fo...=1#post6968209

So far the only piece I want from this figure is the new bag with grenades for my Revenger dio. I was looking at my v1 today and really can't talk myself into buying v2. It's just not enough of an upgrade for me to spend almost $300. I'll be happy with what I've got and enjoy looking at the in-hand pics of the v2 when it's released.

I am sure that if I had an original of this, I wouldn't be buying the 2.0
The first one, I remember picking up in a toy shop and being impressed with the way it looked. At the time I was not buying 1:6 ( except CO Doctor Who).
My plan is to get a second suit and use both sculpts. That said, I still would like the mask to be held in Joker's hand. I have found them on line here for around $60.00 but these are the HT originals. I recall seeing a full set of masks in 1:6, but that might have been a custom.

Yup. And cheap(ish) to do, particularly when they knew they were going to raise the bar considerately on the price point. I'm still looking on line for that set of masks. Of course, if it was a one if custom set, I am not going to have any luck !

HT could use some competition and that might lower the prices if other companies can get the same movie rights for certain characters. I just saw the Star Ace Steve Macqueen figure from The Great Escape and it looks amazing, imo. I think there are companies willing to give a HT a run for their money.

.. except usually companies like Hot Toys (or their competitors) will stipulate they have sole rights to make figures in say 1/6, for a particular license, when they negotiate the agreement.. hence the variations on size and format when competitors want to release a figure from the same license.. for example Kotobukiya making slightly smaller figures, or making them as a snap together, pre-painted 'model' figure kit.. as a result, you are very, very unlikely to get 'direct' like for like competition.. the reason Play Imaginative and Hot Toys have not gone directly head to head.

A repaint can help sculpts look better but in the majority of cases the proto sculpt itself is usually different than the final product because the PVC sculpt undergoes changes in shape due to the resin to PVC conversion process.

That being said, I believe the Bank Robber sculpt that Hong repainted is the Bank Robber proto and it doesn't really look that great.

Hong repaint.

So I think it is a combination of angles not just changes to the sculpt mold itself that make prototype sculpt look really good sometimes.
