I've not seen this but...

Hopefully [for the first time ever] Disney allows one of their filmmakers to release an extended cut. There's literally an hour of AOU Whedon could add.

Whedon said alot of his character was lost in the editing room. Marvel wanted a shorter film and Pietro got the short end of the stick.

Its implied by Whedon that he went against their wishes of keeping him alive because he wanted payback for how much of him they cut out.

What? Joss was the one that wanted it to be a shorter movie than the first Avengers.

That's not true. Whedon actually has very little power when it comes to something like that, and filmed a second version of the ending where Quicksilver lives. What he did do was push for his death, as that's what he always wanted, and when both versions were seen, the studio heads agreed that it was best to have him die.

It's not like a director -- especially for Marvel -- has some godly power to tell his bosses, "You want him alive?! Well TOO BAD!" :lol

That's not what he says in the Empire podcast. He says the studio pushed for the shorter running time and his original cut was nearly an hour longer. Its rough hearing him describe the turbulent experience he had with Marvel. They micromanaged him quite a bit during AOU.

I'm happy with the movie but would love the longer cut.

Directors are supposed to have final cut. Marvel having final cut on their films isn't something that's necessarily good, specially when it challenges the filmmaker.

Whedon could have kept him alive and fulfilled their wishes (done them the marketing favor) but chose to remain true to his original vision - which served as a way to spite them. In the first film, he budged on many things for them that he didn't wanna do originally.
