The brainwashing is strong with this film. I'll admit it was a little better the second time I saw it but that's because you just can't think at all when you watch it, you have to let your brain go to moosh and then it's ok.

I still laugh when I hear the (training not complete argument). Even if they brought back darth maul, he still wouldn't be Vader status, but he would be the closest thing to Vader.
If he does complete his training, he'll just be more powerful. Unless he does a complete 180 in personality I don't know how he'll be any better. Maul was awesome because he looked deadly, hardly spoke and had skill. Vader is one of the greatest villains ever, especially in ESB. Marching around altering deals and Force choking officers. Palpatine was great in both ROTS and ROTJ, one of my favorite villains. I just don't see how Kylo Ren will ever compare to that.

Palpatine was ridiculous in ROTS and basically just sat in a chair in ROTJ.

Vader is only regarded as such because of the nostalgia behind it. A character like that would never work on screen today. It would be extremely cheesy.

And I don't even know why you would mention Maul. He never demonstrated close to the power Kylo Ren. Because he's not a descendant of the chosen one born of the force.

Don't underestimate the power of the dark side is all I will say about the matter. Kylo will be doing all kinds of evil things in VIII, I bet. Especially after what happened in VII. I really like the character. Better than anything the prequels ever gave us. Maul was great, but as a character we know next to nothing about him. (Judging by Phantom Menace)

Maul was pretty great in the Clone Wars and the comic after but he basically just slummed it with Death Watch and other crime syndicates. Definitely not "Grandson of Darth Vader" cool.

I watched a little Clone Wars a while back, but didn't make it to the Maul stuff. Still would like to see it. But yeah, his relation to Vader makes him a sweet character whichever way you look at it.

As for not doing so well in the end fight, he got shot by Chewie's bowcaster, lol. One hit kill on pretty much everyone else. I don't know how that's so hard to understand for some people.

If you guys think Kylo is a good villain that's fine. I just find the idea funny, to me he's nothing but an unfocused whiny toddler with a temper. I had hoped he'd be a good villain but nope.

Out of all the new characters the only ones I like are Rey and Poe. Interested in what they do with Snoke though.

Not wanting to get into an argument just stating opinions.

That "unfocused whiny toddler" stopped a blaster shot in mid-air and held it that way for minutes, commanded the Knights of Ren when they wiped out Luke's Jedi Academy, tortures people using The Force and killed his father to strengthen his position in the Dark Side.

Damn good villain if you ask me.

:goodpost: :clap

It's funny, Luke is whiny in ANH and see how he developed through the trilogy? I'm not worried.

Are you referring to Attack of the Clones Anakin or Kylo Ren?

I get why some people failed to understand the character. There is a reason why dumbed down villains like Vader/Maul are so successful with a lot of people. It doesn't require a lot of thinking other than "They look badass". The whole Snoke corrupting him as a young boy is clearly too complicated of a story line for most which is probably why they cut out some of the dialogue about it in the film.

Some people like Freddy, some people like Jason.

I couldn't disagree more, brother :wink1:

He should have been killed, we've seen Jedi in the past killed by a lot less.

That's why Kylo is a badass. They spent the whole film showing us how powerful the bowcaster is and then Kylo takes a full shot from it and is still able to have a full on lightsaber fight. Can't wait to see where they take his character!

...it's fair to assume so was the opening saber floating thing. It was probably just scrapped. Like I said there are things in it that are in the novel that aren't in the movie. Meaning they were in the screenplay but got edited out of the film.

Is the saber bit in the novel?

BTW, don't vest too much baring on "The novel". I used to read the novels for things like Star Wars and Raiders, etc, and most of them had a lot of filler that was neither in the script nor anywhere else. Just additions to make it "a novel". You want to know what was really planned to be in the movie -- get the original script.

For the record on this other discussion, I really liked Kylo's character.

Cannot wait to unwrap this guy in the morning, I'll post some pictures soon afterwards for you guys.

I kinda quit on 1/6 after being scammed (still a bit paranoid) but damn I could not resist.

Only thing that I hope to be proven wrong about is the light-up saber, seems to be a bit dim near the middle in photos I've seen.

Kylo/Ben was the best part of the movie to me. I hope SS gets it very soon!
