Soon, hopefully. And they should send a blacklist to all the other retailers to force them out, or make sure they pay full price up front (with no refund option).

If anything of this is possible in US then ... wow, just wow.

I was lucky enough to be invited by Marvel for an early screening of Ant Man and The Wasp and gotta say, it was awesome - cleaver combo of fun, laughs, jokes, action and emotions! After seeing the movie, I am definitely ordering The Wasp - she kicked ***.

One question though - I have the original Hot Toys Ant Man - do I need to pick up the new one to match with the Wasp, or can the old one go with it? Hmm....

Why would any of the Antman figure not match?

You think I’m being unreasonable? What’s unreasonable is all the fickle consumers screwing over the few retailers we have in the 1/6 hobby. Let me explain my reasoning:

A few years ago I was able to have a lengthy conversation with Steve at Timewalker about how the retail model works. These products, whether accessories or full box sets are ordered by the case. When it comes to Hot Toys, Sideshow as both distributor and retailer, only allots other retailers so many cases, and it’s pretty rare if Sideshow will let the retailers order more. Luckily, in the case of HT, what you see is what you get, so they can generally move all of them.

But that is not always the case, particularly if the movie sucks (like The Last Jedi). From what I’ve heard, distributors (Sideshow among them), don’t give the retailers the option to return unsold product. The opt-out scenario we saw with the VTS Furiosa is a rarity. Any cancellation (aside from QC issues) puts the financial burden on the retailers. People wonder why NRDs are becoming more prevalent— it has nothing to do with what the retailer is or is not doing— it’s the fickle customers who think it’s no big deal to screw them. No retailer can survive with too much money tied up in product they can’t move.

Any business who has a customer(s) who constantly cancel orders on them has the right to refuse to do any further business with them (warning others may not be an obligation, but it’s the right thing to do; we do it on forums like this one all the time: “Beware this buyer or seller” here, on eBay, etc.) But I guess if this conflicts with one’s own self-interests or bad habits, it must be wrong.

Both Sold out at BBTS :horror

For those thinking about Alterego for preorders make sure you have funds available if using PayPal or CC ..because they charge the full amount right when you order. But you get the money credited back to you..but it takes a few days. So expect to be out of the money for a few days :lecture

Learned this the hard way and had to contact them directly:slap

While I've chosen to stay out of the NRD convo's for the most part due to unpleasant conversations about it in the past, I must agree with you. I shake my head everytime I see people clamoring about NRD's when a new release goes up for order and I always wonder to myself if they actually ever buy anything or they just want to be part of the conversation...
Now I'm not saying they don't buy anything, as I've never really cared enough to investigate further. And maybe it's just because I know what figures I want and which I don't, but an NRD has never drawn me away from getting a figure. I can't say for sure what makes the prices of these figures continue to steadily rise, but i'd wager that people ducking out of non-NRD orders last minute may at least have something to do with it.

I do get that some people don't have the income to support all the figures they want, so they have to be careful in a sense, but I do still hope all retailers of these add NRD's in time. I personally choose to order from SSC because of how often I order, the RP's really rack up fast. The only benefit of BBTS that I see is the $4 shipping, but I feel flex payments are more useful.

If retailer struggle with habits of customers, then he shouldn't be in the business in the first place. It's that simple.

As for refusing some customers and warning others - it does not sound right to me, but ok if it's allowed in the US. In the EU this kind of behaviour is not allowed and it's highly sanctioned.

I don’t think you know how business works. There isn’t a single business in history that doesn’t struggle with what customers do. Otherwise every product would sell out and there would never need to be sales or clearance or just about anything else. When you factor in a product that goes on sale before it’s finished, could take a year to come out, is dependent on source material that may not be out, and a dozen other factors that products like hot toys come with its impossible to forecast a lot of issues.

And even in the EU a store can ban a problem customer.

Sure. And let me guess, you know it all. I was talking about that struggle "boo-hoo they are returning goods, they don't want it anymore, they can return it". Well if you don't have enough cash flow to cover those situations, they you shouldn't do what you do, because you do it wrong.

BBTS is huge and even they are starting to ban customers who order and cancel over and over and over and over and ..............well you get the idea.

And if you can’t pay a 30 dollar deposit on a 300 dollar figure you damn well shouldn’t order. Goes both ways.

I ain’t seen no company on here boo-hoo anything. But I see two dozen customers complain about nrds every time there’s a new figure up for order. I see lots of people post about how they don’t even know if they want an item but will order anyway, because there is no nrd.

And sure they shouldn’t be in business. Makes total sense. If you don’t start out with 4 million dollars working capital and willing to eat tens of thousands of dollars a year you just shouldn’t even have a business. Makes total sense.

And do I know it all. Nope, but clearly more then you on this subject.

Who has gotten banned? I keep seeing people say this but I’ve never seen any proof or firsthand confirmations.

They should match fine, I'm only getting Wasp and I'll be displaying her with the original Ant-Man figure. :) As much as I like the Ant-Man character I don't really want to be forking out on a third version of him with so much other stuff coming out.

Wish the UK retailers would hurry up and put her up for pre-order though! :impatient:

well, apparently "doing it right" requires adding an NRD to deal with fickle customers. at this point, i would wager that most of the high end collectible hobby revolves around preorders. Most companies will noy have the cash flow to deal with all the fickle customers out there if they didn't have an NRD. these are fairly small companies were talking about.

NRDs for these products is mostly garbage. It's uncommon for most of these figures to have a problem selling out. In fact, many people are hoping someone else cancels so they can even get a product.

What's worse, you HAVE to pre-order if you're even thinking about a Hot Toys because they sell out so quickly. This means that you're essentially having to pay a fee now to even have the option to get the figure 12-16 months from now with no clue how it will even turn out.

NRDs should only kick in when the product is getting close to release time.

Some may not like NRDs because of the potential for QC issues or emergency need to cancel, but unfortunately those people are paying on behalf of the customers that just get caught up in the hype and lose interest or move on to the new shiny.

Totally agree.

For me I don't like NRD not because I'm fickle or don't know if I want the figure, but because who the hell knows what is going to be going on in 1.5 years when these things come out..... Life happens man jobs could get lost, kids could come along, etc... so having to put down a NRD deposit on a prototype figure doesn't sit will with me.

Would be 100% fine with NRD if they took pre-orders when the final production shots were released or 2 months or so before release.

Eh, I'm not going to apologize for preordering figures that I may, on rare occasion, decide to cancel later on-- usually either because I've lost interest or am disappointed in the final product. Especially after I've already given these businesses thousands of my dollars over the years, and bought far more than I've ever cancelled.

Nothing worse than entitled jerks who feel entitled to do whatever pleases them regardless of it's impact on others. These retailers need to keep track of the people who order to cancel and start banning them.

Maybe people repeatedly gloating about "no NRD" in every damn thread needs to be banned.
