Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

Who needs maquettes, premium format and statues when 1/6ths are this good now. What an astounding looking figure.
totally what i feel lately. since i got into the hot toys predator line last year i've been leaning more towards the figures they are putting out than anything else. they keep surprising me with each new figure they release and you can usually get them for a good deal from the secondary market vendors. right now i'm all over the place with the predator, iron man, terminator, and dark knight lines from hot toys.

Spoke to a friend this morning who had seen a press screening, said it was entertaining but very underwhelming and didn't live up to expectation...
Guess we'll just have to judge for ourselves!

And so the negativity begins...here we go again.

That's the key right there though, expectation. Anytime someone has a strong expectation for what a film will be, if it doesn't live up to that, it's no good. Except that, A) not everyone has the same expectations, and B) some people, like myself, have no expectations. The only thing I anticipate with this movie is that there will be more of a story to it than T3 and it will somewhat fall in line with T1 and T2 in terms of a strong story being the foundation for the events and not just pure action like T3.

Yep, thats why I said 'Guess we'll just have to judge for ourselves!'
I like to get feedback, but you gotta see it before you judge too harshly. I actually didn't see T3 till after it had been out for ages, then picked it up on DVD for like £2, I was totally expecting it to be utter rubbish and unwatchable... so I was actually pleasently surprised. It wasn't great (by a long shot) but it was OK!
Likewise I had another friend who writes game reviews, she gets to see a lot of press screenings as well and she said Transformers was great but thought The Watcmen was crap, typical gamer... we're still frinds, but her judgement has gone in my estimation... horses for courses!:rotfl

Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

T3, if watched by itself is enjoyable, as part of the series though, my dissappointment was the loss of the moral story that Cameron laced into his films. Yes they were fun Sci-Fi flicks, but there was also and underlying message about humanity and all and I think that's what made them so strong, that there was a strong story. That's my hope for Salvation. When I read the article about Bale telling the producers he wouldn't sign on unless the story was strong enough to be powerful without special effects, that gave me hope. I think that's where T3 went askew, they didn't particularly have a strong story, and got very wrapped up in the stunts and effects. Cameron seemed more to have a story in his mind and then used effects and all to tell that story but it wasn't his focus.

Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

Well yeah expectation is high for this based on the trailers and the interviews etc. They are playing it up and now they have to deliver!

I have to say though, most of the time when expectations are so great, movies tend to fall short of them. The only time a movie with massive expectations managed to exceed them somehow, was TDK IMO.

Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

I'm a bit curious where the expectation comes from, I've watched all of the trailers and honestly, I really dig the visuals I see and I expect that to be a fun view, but the trailers and clips have given me no expectation for the story, I can't even really piece together what the storyline is or anything, other than what's sort of known from previous films. I guess I'll consider myself lucky this film hasn't given me expectation as I'll probably be able to enjoy it more. I actually had certain expectations for TDK, fortunately, it wasn't what I expected but I still enjoyed it.

I'm getting this Connor figure regardless of the film though, I just find the look has a presence that I want in my collection.

Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

The one thing that has my attention is the few references to the past T1 and T2 films. This imo is there way of pleasing past fans and having a current star like Bale will please the rest.

I always bring my expectations low before any type film, I usually find the film more enjoyable that way. TDK was another good example of this. So I have a feeling I will really enjoy this film even though nothing has really impressed me thus far.

Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

I don't think any T film will ever match up with the quality of T1 and T2 unless Cameron is behind it. Like the Aliens and Predator franchises, all these new directors act like they understand what the original guys did and can bring it to their movies, but I've yet to see one capture that. You need the original or you just can't live up to it. Like I said though, i do think T:S will come much closer than T3 did, which would be nice.

I think it will too, there have been many hints to past film connections. The problems come from the film maker, he or she will settle with their own arrogant plan regardless of what the fan wants.

Thats what it comes down to at the end of the day, an arrogant film maker looking to leave his or her mark. Their own style if you will. This film will be no different but imo may be enjoyable.

Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

Well, I know a lot of people think Bale's a ^^^^ after the whole incident, but I see him as a devoted and passionate actor and because of that, it's his involvement in this film that gives me hope. He doesn't strike me as someone who commits to a movie unless he truly believes in it.

Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

I have really low standards ( just ask my wife) so I'll probably enjoy the movie. :D

Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

You mean your ex-wife :lol

Only if she see's that post! :lol

do you think that people place a too high expectation of movies than say 10, 15 years ago? Technology has moved on so quickly in the last few years that I think some movies forget about the story and concentrate on special effects. I like a good story in a movie, but I also love all out WOW factor. I've stayed away from watching trailers and as much of the hype and spoilers as a can, so I can go and watch it without prejudice.
