Quite a bit of a Jack Nicholson look to that.

 Really!? I don't see any resemblance. In any scene.

Still pictures don't capture it. Seeing the cheeks and lips move in certain ways shows similarities.

I agree with vodoun, I don't know if resemblance is the word, but in shooting my Ledger Joker figures, I do find certain lighting and angles of his face immediately make me think of the "way til they get a lod of me" shot of Nicholson, I don't think he ever looks just like him, but something about Ledger's look under the right circumstances can make you think Nicholson.

Hmmm.. I never got that feeling while watching Heath in TDK or while looking at my figure in person or in pics. So iunno.. guess I just disagree. :D

my hatred of Jack's portrayal.

how the f__k cant you like nicholson's joker? he was great! he was perfect as the joker, but it was a different joker. he played the 70's-80's joker, and was perfect. if ledger's joker was supposed to be the joker of that time period, then he'd be wayyy off in his portrayal. but seriously, nygma...why do you hate the nicholson joker?

No offense Nygma, but I gotta agree here. Nicholson left a big impression on me when I first saw it, as I was about 12. Although Heath's delivery was more gritty, and arguably more powerful, Jack was exactly what he needed to be for that movie. I still love his Joker, and would kill for a Hot Toys Jack Joker!

Jack Nicholson is not only one of the best actors but also played an amazing Joker. Those that disagree probably know very little about "film" He did a phenominal job back in 89' He MADE that film and imo was part of the reason comic movies are made the way they are today. It's all gotta start somewhere and Jack is where it started.

Pffffft to new school.

I don't hate Nicholson's Joker. I thought he was fine and I enjoyed the movie. But with that said.. he was more Jack Nicholson than The Joker i.e. he didn't play a part. Look at The Shining when he goes nuts. Look at him in The Witches of Eastwick. Or even The Departed. When I watch the 89' Batman I see Jack Nicholson dressed up like the Joker.

When I see TDK I see The Joker. I don't see Heath Ledger. Watch First Knight, The Patriot or Brokeback Mountain or hell even 10 Things I Hate About You and try to find any similarities between the characters. You won't. Same can't be said for Nicholson's Joker and other roles he's done.

Same can't be said for Carrey's Riddler either. That's just Jim Carrey doing Jim Carrey. Just so happens that's he's wearing a Riddler costume while he's doing it. You can look at other movies from Jim and see the exact same performance. Same with Jack.

Was Jack the best Joker up to that point? Yeah. Was Heath better? IMO Yeah. Because he played a part. And it's indistinguishable from other parts he had done previously. Can't say the same for Nicholson as The Joker. The make-up and costume were irrelevant for Jack Nicholson. He played himself.

*waits for angry 89' Batman nerds to react*

Jack Nicholson Joker was great really. I still love his preformance. He is brilliant in the movie and a different kind of Joker. I prefer Ledger's Joker over Jack's. Both are great, but Ledger is more serious and frightening.

At this point I have to agree with you!

The only thing I was mostly gutted with from growing up with the 89 film thats still set in memory is how in this new reboot the Joker never killed Bruce's parents.

The 89 film felt as if the Joker was part of Batman's life where as in The Dark Knight he's just like any regular criminal in a snazzy costume.

I can't help at times trying to fit bits of the 89 film onto this but it just doesn't work. It's something I can't help but try to do since it's been that long.

It was a nice tuch in the 89 movie and I like it, but I am happy if this is different in the TDK.

I'm the opposite. :lol

I hated that about the 89' Batman because it made absolutely no sense and was completely unnecessary IMO. It also wasn't true to Batman's origin in the comics, which is the source material being used for ALL of these films. The Joker is supposed to be obsessed with Batman. Not the other way around. The Joker enjoys (albeit in a sick and twisted way) ANY type of contact he has with Batman. It's always The Joker doing stuff to attract Batman.. so The Joker can have contact. That's what he enjoys.

That sick relationship completely dies if The Joker murdered Batman's parents. Because then, just like in the 89' film Batman would be the one obsessed. Batman would be the one constantly trying to make contact with The Joker, etc.

Also (in the comics and even in the 89' film) Batman made The Joker (Red Hood storyline) so that sets up the connection between the two. But it's a connection that The Joker is fixated with. Not Batman. Since for the most part Batman isn't even aware that the Red Hood was Joker (at least initially).

And in TDK, the connection is how much fun Joker has 'playing' with Batman. It's an adversarial relationship. The Joker becomes obsessed with Batman because to him, Batman is the only worthy opponent he can find (since he pretty much has his way with everyone else in Gotham).

IMO both those elements work in both films without The Joker murdering Batman's parents. Seriously.. to this day I still think that element of the 89' film is stupid. :lol

gotta agree with you about that devil. at first, especially when i was younger, i thought it was an interesting idea to have joker be the killer of bruce's parents...but then i started to get into the comics more, so that made me dislike the idea. but what really killed it for me (movie wise) was batman forever. "i killed my parents." "sorry sir?" "two face killed my parents".....WHO THE F__K WROTE THAT?? the line itself is just plain stupid, and the idea of he or twoface killing his parents doesn't work if it was joker. that killed the movie continuity, and was just dumb imo. actually...it wasn't dumb-imo...it was just dumb-FACT!

I completely agree with you guys.

You misheard the line. He says "I killed his parents", refering to Robin's. Bruce feels guilty for not being heard at the circus when Two Face demands Batman reveal himself, causing the Graysons to be murdered. Alfred then reassures him that it was Two Face who's responsible.
