Complete BS. The idea of censored, skewed viewpoints and conversation in a public forum created for discussion is a joke. If you don't want the truth.. be a hermit and don't speak to anyone. Live in your own little private fantasy land where you and everything you do/have/are involved with is awesome and the best. Because obviously hearing anything that contradicts that will upset you.

How about instead of trying to negate honest opinions, people just toughen up and stop acting like little sensitive ass cry babies when some person on the internet they'll never meet isn't head-over-heels in love with their new little toy?

AAAAND....
You are right in your own way and that is fine, just don't force others to think the same way by just being over the top. After all is said and done mature discussion does not come from name callng and disrespect by any of the parties.....reminds me of the political landscape in the US ... hmm and pretty much globally and it's sad to see
..but back to our little world, who says we have to be all mature all the time especially in a forum where we are all happily labbeled freaks ;) ... take it easy there are rights and wrong in all of us

Wouldn't have it any other way. I'm not into customs, they just don't feel legit to me. It's really hard for me to describe without sounding harsh. Now I don't mean paper clips in the collars (T-800), swapping parts/heads or taking off accessories that don't belong (Bank Robber Joker), but it just doesn't feel right modifying a figure or using heads made from scratch, even if they're really, really good. It just feels dirty.

I hear what you're saying, but you're wrong! :wave

Seriously though, I do know what you mean. I used to feel similar, but I got over it.

How do you feel about complete customs. Meaning figures built from the ground up, bashing parts and using custom headsculpts and paint jobs?

Joker makes me laugh the way he's peeking around the corner! :lol

What company produced your head? Did it have a production number? If it was just some guy that you found on here looking to make a buck by scamming a few members with expensive heads then I don't consider them legit, period. Hence the term "dirty".

So are you saying that you would prefer a numbered print of a painting or an original piece of art?

oh my what happened here?
This is not just for this hobby but pretty much ... life....
Outside being a hobby this applies heavily to clothing/fashion. Another fiercely debated hobby are cars.
OEM factory originals vs third party. There may or may not be quality difference but in the end it is mostly for looks. Funny thing is most don't even realize that these OEM parts are always third party. e.g. I got my friend to put factory optional Infinity 19" rims on his Acura (without the cap of cause) because OEM parts (for japanese brands) tend to sell for less used and I know these parts were made by a wellknown performance manufacturer whose used parts sell for significantly more. After a lot of research and fitting the end result is beautiful but he has heard an earful about how he whored his ride. Now for German/Italian cars it is even worse as those owners almost never would whore up their rides with anything but originals and happily pay for it!
The problem is not what anyone deems acceptable but the need to impose such views onto each other. And in an attempt to out do each other any reason becomes valid. "IMHO" mostly is a forefront to do it. The right thing to do is praise what you like and keep it to yourself if you don't. It is not easy but the mature thing to do. With the same token present your awesome mod etc but stop hardselling and sometimes no feedback is simply because ppl are trying to be respectfully quiet
BTW all the above is IMHO
:borg:

^^^There is truth in both of these. But I do know which kind of person I'm drawn to in the real world... and here. And I know what kind of person comes off like an _______.

  • My response to Geil is: although negativity has no place here or in the real world, constructive criticism does. And although I agree that self censuring does have a place in any society or community (yes even on the internet), there is no need to silence oneself if you don't like something. Just chose words that wont make your target feel hurt, it will just cause people to be defensive. Most people appreciate sincere constructive criticism.

  • My response to Devil_666 is (with the above statement in mind, sometimes it is better to just say nothing if you have nothing nice to say.

I'm not totally averse to customs.

My first and so far only 1/6th custom head is a Terminator 4 John Connor headsculpt with the facial wounds from the end of the film. I got it by way of a trade with Thrustmaster, sort of a happy accident actually. I didn't have anything in particular in mind, I simply asked if he had anything he didn't mind parting with and it was this custom head. The sculpt is better than the Hot Toys John Connor, it looks more like Christian Bale, of that I have no doubt. However the paintjob and finish aren't quite at Hot Toys level. In that respect is sorta stands out negatively next to stock HT figures. Nevertheless I'm using it as my first choice head on my John Connor Final battle because of the superior likeness and because I also display Neca Terminator figures and their paintjobs aren't exactly HT standard either.

My next custom piece I intend to own is Baloo's biomask for the P1 Predator, again its better than what Hot Toys gave us but also its hoped that the paint and finish will in fact also be better than HT.

I don't have a problem with customised figures, I simply found it odd in the case of the Joker that people are changing out that excellent head in favour of their own heads, some of which I've not commented on because I wouldn't have had positive words to say to be honest. Some custom headsculpts are unique and vastly different to what Hot Toys provided such as that laughing one - now that one I can get on board with, its something I wished Hot Toys had made themselves...but these other customs? When I see them I rhetorically ask "what was wrong with Yullis one??"

Some just like different expressions. some of the customs out there have different expressions. some like scene specific or different make up.

and a lot of people like real hair.

well as for myself being one who kitbashed a joker together, at the time that both DX01 and DX02 came out, I had no were near the income I do now, so for that reason, I had to rely on the muich cheaper DCD 1/6 Joker and work with that HS then piece my joker together. So in my case, there was never anything wrong with Yulli's sculpt, I just couldn't afford the DX02, now I can afford what it originally cost, but again, price has gone up and I still can't afford that sucker :(

Yeah, you are right, Mag: it is very easy via these forums to pour his venom without being really worried; it is the only weapon of cowards and other frustrated of life.
These forums have, it seems to me, a playful purpose, right? The pleasure of collectors (perhaps atypical) who share a common passion...
Some do not like the customization, this is understandable:
For example, if the approach is the speculation, we can then think that we'll lose in the resale (although the opposite could happen, if customization is highly rated).
I think the customization comes from several sources:
- For some, it is an answer to a lack of truthfulness of the original,
- For others, it is a way to differentiate themselves from the majority, do not like everyone else, have a unique piece.
We often say that the freedom of some stops there where the freedom of the others begins... Everyone should be free to choose (whether wise or not), just as everyone should be able to speak freely, but on a single condition: respect the other one. :peace

Ok I can appreciate views and respect opinions, but can I please clarify what I am reading here.

Are you saying that based upon these:

That, based upon that^, this:

Is any way superior to this:

Or this:

Or any of these (apart from laughing one which I know you said you can understand):

Is that what you are trying to say?

Halalaaa... Please, stop showing me beautiful things like this: I cannot refrain from drooling every time, and after I have to wipe my keyboard for hours! :D

Can't we all just get along?..........No? Well, that doesn't surprise me. People have started wars over discussions like this, though it was about who's god is better, and not who's Joker toy is better. These threads are getting out of hand, and it's mainly over which Joker is the best. It's Bobby vs Adam vs Hot Toys and really who cares? Apparently everyone here, because none of us seem to have anything better to do with our lives except complain and/or cream our pants about toys, and they are just toys. No matter how much you paid for your Joker head, it's still just a toy, and nothing more. Just like a car is just a car and a boat is just a boat no matter what the price sticker says. Just toys! Deal with it! Now everyone please play nice so another thread doesn't get shut down over stupid crap. Thanks.

^^agreed monkey! When the DX came out "it looks just like Heath ledger," which now gets bashed due to adam's sculpts. when Adam made his sculpts "they look just like Heath Ledger" which now(at times) get bashed along with the DX b/c of BobbyC's sculpt "looks just like Heath Legder" I mean come one guys each and every sculpt looks great and let those who have those sculpts enjoy them w/o someone else who has the other sculpts saying that their's are superior. Let's just get back on topic with this thread being for the DX Joker.

Adam has his thread where everyone can post pics of there Adam sculpts as well as with BobbyC's thread where y'all can post your sculpts there, that way those who want to see said sculpts can go into there respective threads. So please let this one go back to being for just the DX Joker :) :peace

Well i'm fine with this thread being used for DX joker but when some people feel the need to come in and bash others for spending money on custom heads, and claim that said heads are no better than the standard one, then i'm afraid i have no option but to defend some of the amazing custom heads we have seen.

Also, along with the Adam and BobbyC sclupts that I posted some pictures of, noone in their right mind can argue that mokneyrobotmaster's customized DX head is not better than the standard version.

Thanks Void. I'm all for customs (obviously) I just don't get all the hate going around. I mean it's one thing to have an opinion, but a lot of the stuff I've been reading here is nuts. So much fuss over dolls, I never thought I'd see the day. It all reminds me of when my little sister got into a slap fight with her friend because she liked black Barbie better then white Barbie. She was five when that happened by the way.

Yeah buddy i really don't get it either *shrugs*

I mean is it not simple to understand that some people are more obssessed over details and accuracy and others, and are willing to spend time and money to make themselves happy with their 1/6 figures?

Simple enough to me!

Anyway, that coat mod is fantastic!! Did you simply cut it or did you have to do some re-sewing etc. to fix it up?

I've seen many custom sculpts of the Joker I personally prefer than the hot toys sculpt but I still think that one is incredible.
One of the reasons I love this forum is that you see so many custom works all over the place and can sometimes buy a lot of it too. As much as I love hot toys I like looking at my shelf knowing I have artists work from all over the planet.
When I first got into the hobby I wanted custom stuff instantly so I could never understand not liking the idea personally.
Then again there are people who buy these figures and leave them in their boxes forever and that's something I'll never be able to figure out. :lol

Everyone just has different ways of enjoying the hobby I suppose , arguing or even having a harmless debate over it is completely pointless imo. It's a matter of opinion I think.

That Joker is bad ass monkeyrobot ^ , awesome job.

Good post, the only thing I would perhaps differ with in terms of my view is that i'm all for harmless debate - provided everyone can understand like grown ups that everyone is different therefore everyone will have different opinions. You understand and respect that, and there should never be any problems.

What causes problems is people coming in and bashing it would seem just for the hell of it.
