They're just shots of the figure. My shots of my figures aren't special. They don't have any lighting effects except the flash from the camera.

I think these are a much fairer way of comparing the two and like I said there's not much in it but the HT one is better IMO

Once again though the cop sculpt is a no contest IMO

Hmm. If that's what you think then.

But I disagree. I've had the DX figure, and it looks like a really nice, high quality doll. But Adam's sculpts, in person, look like a miniature person, and photo's don't really pick up what they look like really.

There's a real meanness to the cop Joker sculpt of mine which doesn't come through particularly well in photos.

I just find it funny how when I post pictures of the DX 01 which aren't at all doctored or made to look better with lighting and shadow, and compare them with photos of Adam's which the same aren't doctored or made to look better with lighting and shadow, people say "You're just using the worst shots of the DX", it doesn't count. But those pictures are no less altered then mine. I just snapped my shots with a regular camera and did nothing else.

I can only speak for myself but my pic that I quoted most certainly wasn't enhanced in any way whatsoever hence why i think it's better for comparison

No, I know. I was addressing the guy above me. I just mean the official Hot Toys shots are obviously enhanced to make it look better then it is. And, imo, it still doesn't look even half as good as Adam's sculpts. But when the DX is photographed and left unaltered and looks bad, people say, "Those are just the worst shots of it", as though I've done something special to Adam's to make it look better. Again, not trying to start a fight, just being objective about it. I wouldn't have bought the sculpts if I didn't think they were worth it, and believe me, they are. They're beautiful in person. If you could see a side by side comparison of them in real life, you would see the difference totally. The quality difference is astounding.

Looks like you were proven right, although your bumping of the thread is what drew the attention

The guys was getting flamed even before I comment on it. I was just letting him know he had a friend in all this madness.

:wink1:

In general, everything about a Hot Toys head is cleaner. The paint and sculpt will tend to be more rough on even the best custom. I think a lot of people get hung up on that.

This is exaclty why I buy Hot Toys over customs.

The custom cop looks more like Heath. I agree that's objectively true. But I can see why some prefer the HT expression. Adam's is a more neutral face whereas HT did a nice job of capturing the expression at exactly 2:43 - 2:44 in this scene:

Although Adam's looks more like the actor, HT captured the spirit of the character here well. I think owners of both should be pleased. :)

The funny thing about all this comparison stuff is that Hot Toys was the first company to start doing nealy accurate 1/6 scale figures. If you go back 10 or 20 years there was nothing that even came close to the figures we have today. Now anyone can sit and pick apart the accuracy of Hot Toys figures, but would you rather have?

I don't know about anyone here, but I'll take the second one. I also remember collecting Batman 89 and Batman Returns toys, they were worse then the figure in the first photo. So, Hot Toys deserves a hand just the way Todd Mcfarlane did when he started doing his figures.

:clap:clap:clap

Actually I think enterbay did it first.movable eyes, seperate hair peices, heck hot toys are even stealing there sculpters[arnie kim]what next is hot toys gonna make 1 4 scale figures?oh wait they stole that to.so maybe enterbay should be getting the credit for raising the bar.as far as the likeness thing if your just looking at a expresion then why is nobody defending the v1 joker?the likeness is the most important aspect of these sculpts.heath ledger was an actor who played the joker,so it should look like heath ledger.would a bruce wayne figure just be a guy in a suit?

Copied eh? G.I. Joes in the 70's had moveable eyes, anything else? HT's had 1/4 busts before EB.

Not really, and if anything, SSC did the 1/4 scale thing before they did, EB and HT's only contribution was articulation. No matter what you say, expression is just as important as likeness. I don't care if it looks like a miniature clone, but I don't want a boring as hell Heath Ledger figure on my shelf, I want a figure that embodies the character just as much as the actor. HT didn't "steal" 1/4 scale either, as, last time I checked, no one has a patent on scale. Stop being so dramatic.

Some of you guys really think Hot Toys is better then this?

Jokerinnaturallight133.jpg

Yep, I do think the HT is better than this. As others have said, good likeness but it hardly represents the scene at all. It was a very short part of the film where Ledger appeared in that outfit and not once did his face look this...blank. This custom is far too neutral. I'm sure its worth having for a Batman obsessive, you can pretend its an off screen moment but if you want something that looks taken right off the screen I'd go with plain ol' Hot Toys on this particular one.

I don't care about it representing that one second of screen time, I care about it being a tribute to Heath Ledger and the character he brought to life. So it being accurate to what he actually looked like in reality is what I find important, more then the expression he held for one second on screen. If I'd wanted that, I would have sent Adam a screen cap of that expression, and it would have been better then the Hot Toys sculpt. But I sent him a specific picture, which he accurately sculpted the expression from.

The eyes on this sculpt, I think, are quite mean, the way Heath was able to make his eyes look on screen. It doesn't pick up as well in photo's, just like the incredible detail of the sculpt itself doesn't. But it looks like the character of the Joker, with that same, cold indifference in the face.

Fair enough, its about what you're personally after. For me though, I don't understand why someone would not want a figure thats based on something with only a couple of seconds of screentime to look exactly like it did in those couple of seconds of screentime. Ergo I'd go with the HT expression. And I don't think the HT likeness is so far off on that sculpt either. As the old cliche goes, to each his own.

On this one, I second the thoughts around a-dev's logic. Though it resembles Ledger a lot but it does not go with the 'Honour Guard' costume at all. This costume (and HT's sculpt) was made to represent that 1 sec shot in the movie. But then, as wbss21 said, to each his own.

If a collector/fan wants to display something s/he appreciates in a certain way, so be it. Collecting is about doing something which appeals to your senses, not others. But of course, some people are touchy. If they do not get (desired) acknowledgement/appreciation for something they own (and paid big bucks for it), they feel miserable and get defensive about it. Let people be happy the way they are, its a free world after all. :lecture

I like the HT sculpt. I still have it even. It's not that I wanted it NOT to look like that particular scene, it's that I wanted this specific expression taken from this specific photograph. To me, it's like the Joker in between that scene we see in the film. Screen accuracy doesn't matter to me. It's why I've got my interrogation sculpt set up with the full purple jacket and sports coat. If I wanted it to look exactly like the interrogation scene, obviously, I'd take the jacket and coat off, but I just want a really nice tribute to Heath and the Joker. That's all.
