So Joker is a disgruntled ex-military soldier who got screwed when he joined the circus and somehow ended up in Arkham for a stint where he plotted his revenge. It's just crazy enough that I buy it!

From a TDKR tie-in book, regarding Joker's possible origins:

*snip*

I refuse to read.

I don't think Joker should have an origin story. In TDK when he says "you wanna know how I got these scars" I was like, 'No! I don't want to know!' Then when he told a different story each time I was relieved. He shouldn't be someone you can figure out.

They're the same in the book. Just theories. Nothing concrete.

I agree. I want him to stay mysterious.

That just gives more credence to the fact that no one has anyone idea of jokers origin and this is based on pure conjecture, just as he had multiple stories throughout the film.

I like him being mysterious, mostly because I can relate him easier to how I see the Joker. What I mean is, the lack of an origin is better b/c it doesn't negatively color my opinion of him, and I can just pretend he's more like how I see Joker personally. I think I'm not writing this well, lol, sorry. It doesn't matter in the end anyway, the performance is all that matters to me.

I understand what youre saying. Its like old horror movies where they "leave it up to the viewer" versus showing all of it. Your mind will come up with somthing better than anything they throw on screen.

Yeah, exactly. It's like Boba Fett, he's still awesome, but he was cooler before the origin. Just leave Joker as is and let us enjoy him as we will, lol. :)

For a second there I was like Boba Origin...What origin?? Then AOTC popped in my head. My mind had actually deleted that from memory. Wish it stayed gone. :(

:lol

I read that Nolan actually wrote a few pages of backstory for the Joker.

I agree. That gag was brilliant. Not only did it add mystery, but it added confusion at first. Wait, which story is the right one? Anarchy! It was perfect. It also established that Joker never, ever tells the entire truth... there's always a lie worked in there somewhere.

Yeah and like I said, these Dark Knight Manual police reports only ADD to the mystery IMO. There's 2-3 more possible origins other than the Joker's stories now

Maglor the figure looks like a repaint in the first picture compared to the second picture with the hat. Are they two different figures?

That's why I like the Nolan Joker over the 89 version. He's more mysterious since you don't know much about the guy. He's off the wall.

Where 89' was more of a Joker movie than a Batman movie. It was more of a Joker origin movie than anything else.
