Re: Hot Toys MMS Iron Man Mark XXI-MIDAS

It seems stupid and really just bad business to make it so limited. How much money is left on the table when tons of people want one but they didn't make enough? Then scalpers just make a ton because of it and hot toys misses out. Seems dumb to me but what do I know.

Thats my thought

no. its all about collectibility. HT has to keep these somewhat limited in order to protect the high entry point. thats why they are all limited. some are more limited. you cant tell me for 1 second you dont have a glimmer of pride when you own a highly limited piece. sure they can make 10000 of everything. but then your HT figure would be worth jack **** the second you bought it. in the world of high end collectibles, youre always going to have the tons and tons like bespin luke and seemingly the new tony stark, and then youre going to have the BD MK VII that is a chase figure and much more rare. personally i like the rare and hard to find. i suppose children who just want a doll, wouldnt understand this.

im not saying youre a child. im just saying it takes a mature POV to understand the concept of highly limited vs limited.

I think you don't understand. Thinking you collecting expensive dolls isn't a bit "childish" as you put it. But that's neither here nor there is it? I'm not interested in buying these for how much their worth as you seem to be. I'm buying them because I love the source material and they are beautiful to look at. Your reasoning makes no sense, if they made more it doesn't change the price they sell them at, it just gives scalpers less chance to make money. I highly doubt this figure will cost more then all the others when it goes up so what does that mean? It only helps scalpers when they limit these and no one else. If you want to be in some exclusive club for owning toys good for you but that's not me.

This theory went right out the window when Hot Toys decided to F the secondary market and re-release figures like the Mk 1 & Mk 2 and so on. There aren't many Hot Toys figures that are rare anymore or difficult to come by, at least any that have been released recently.

Sure, there's your Hawkeye's or Mark 4's/6's that have doubled in retail but if you want any of them they're very easy to find on the secondary market & none are rare at all. The Mark 3 SDCC gunmetal is more rare but he's up on eBay every day.

Off the top of my head I can think of 1 really rare figure that's very hard to find anywhere, Davy Jones.

And so will Midas and bd mark VII be as well. They can't make the same amount of every figure, that makes no sense for collectors. And when collectors are spending 250+ for a figure and don't care about it holding its value, well, I cannot relate to that line of thinking at all.

If they don't limit the production, as they claim to be, I doubt this will be highly sought after and merely just regular release more like repaint release (with only difference is this is actually a different Mark).

To be able to sell this at pretty not limited amount I think HT has made a good decision.

As for the scalper, they have to suffer queeing and all that kind of stuff to flip couple hundred bucks so yeah whatever to them.. HT sees this as good marketing campaign and will be pride to know its products are well received globally. It's more like Goodwill on HT's perspective.

Those just my thought :)

Damn this waiting game is really making me bored.

Re: Hot Toys MMS Iron Man Mark XXI-MIDAS

Well this one is definitely not a keeper, but it is a seller. $$$

Re: Hot Toys MMS Iron Man Mark XXI-MIDAS

you cant tell me for 1 second you dont have a glimmer of pride when you own a highly limited piece.

I can tell you this without a seconds hesitation, and I've been collecting for over 20 years, and have been party to commissioning items of which there are less than 20, let alone 1000+ mass-produced pap. It means nothing.

Why?

I, and others, wanted the item because we liked it. It meant something to us (and this was 20 years later). If you go into things like "the Midas" because it's allegedly "rare", you're an idiot. Especially on an item like this, which may have appeared for 2.1 seconds in a film that no one will care about in 10 years.

Ultra limited. Exclusive. Act now! :rotfl

:goodpost:. I too have been collecting for 25+ years and can say you are exactly right. These figures should not be investments, because of their "exclusivity". Save your money and buy stocks/bonds for that.
This stuff is hot now and may remain hot for a few years, and you may make some money in the short term flip while the demand is high, but as long term investments you are kidding yourself. They may or may not maintain their value.
Limited or Ultra limited is good only with respect to the feeling of having something that is not mass produced.
Folks that have been collecting for a while know that value is strictly going to be based on subjective perspective. I have G1 Transformers from my childhood that I have had for almost 30 years and they are now worth major cash. That doesn't matter to me though as I will not sell them, and never bought them as investment, I just loved the, and still love buying Tansformers today.
Enjoy this Hot Toys stuff for what it is. Adult based toys...( big boy/girl toys):wink1:

Re: Hot Toys MMS Iron Man Mark XXI-MIDAS

Does anyone know what the number of the mark suit that was a red MKVII?
Other than the MKVII of course.
I was watching the movie this morning and the suit that locks onto pepper's heat signature and she destroys it is a MKVII. She even puts the arm on to blast Killian.
I don't have a list of all the marks here where I am and thought someone might know if its another mark, or just a production mistake putting the MKVII in there when it had already been destroyed.

Probably is Mark VIII. There are like other 5+ suits that are almost the same or the same as te Mark VII. Only with different color and/or different design on some leg, torso, arm parts.

Nope. Definitely a fully armoured up MKVII. It has the rocket pods on the shoulders and thighs.
Not a MKVIII.
That is very different from the MKVII.
Just had a chance to check.
Must just be a goof.

Personally, I like it whenever I purchase a new figure and it sells out soon after it's release, rather than being in stock everywhere for a year or two. It makes me feel like I have something unattainable, which makes the figure even more cooler than it already is.
