Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

Finally saw XMFC last night and I freaking loved it! Not sure what I would want from this figure wise though...

Magneto - I'd rather have him in his red suit than the X-Suit.
Emma Frost, Beast and Mystique - Would all be damn cool.

Aside from those 4 I'd like to have Charles Xavier but really, I'll just wait for one that's bald and in a wheelchair.

The rest of the characters were either not quite important enough in the overall storyline or just not that visually dynamic.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

Saw it tonight for the first time, I thought it was great though I can understand my brothers frustration with certain problems regarding the timeline with the previous films.

Figure-wise, not much I'd consider though. Pretty much just Xavier and Magneto but even at that I'd rather have the Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen versions and maybe just buy the McAvoy and Fassbender headsculpts as alternates.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

Having read X-men comics all my life, I finally had enough of Fox's "Miserable Mutants" with last stand. I have pretty much boy-cotted Wolverine and X-men first class, and while I finally broke down and rented XO: Wolverine (and hated it due to many reasons)...I will never support X-men First Class....

Except by buying a Hot Toys Beast if he is made. Just because it is Beast, the only character from the real first class.

Apples and Oranges. X:FC acts as if Last Stand or Wolverine Origins never existed and we are all better for it. It is the best Comic Book movie I've seen in a long time and runs rings around Thor, or Green Lantern or Iron Man 2 and IMHO is Marvel's TDK, why it hasn't exploded is anyone's guess. If Fox can keep churning out mutant films like X:FC then I hope Marvel Studios never EVER gets the license back. This film was that superb.

That being said I'm only in for Magneto since there is a ton of ____ out from other licenses.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

X MEN First Class is a superior comic book film- just a superior film period. Miles better than Thor, too bad it didn't do better at box office. This summer overload of comic movies may hinder success of some.
It will find a large and loyal audience on DVD.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

Movie adaptations of comics can be tough. You really need to go in with an open mind and realize that you are watching someone else's vision of characters that you may well have loved for your entire life. Once you start comparing a 2 hour movie to years and years of comic book continuity you're just bound to end up disappointed.

Glad you liked it Flosi! :hi5:

So far, and (ahem) I called my shot WAAAY back, I think it's the best movie of the summer. Okay, I actually said Thor was probably going to be the best but then XFC. Compared to Thor what did you think?

:clap 'bout sums it up really...but I'm hoping for a Beast.

It may well be a better movie, then all you have listed (in your opinion), and better than Green Lantern I'm sure. However, I wish every X-men movie ever made had never existed to be honest. I'm just that hardcore of a comic fan. It's not that I want slavish reproductions of the comic's continuity. But I do wish for the representations of characters, and the relationships between characters to be represented correctly. For me, that has not been done in Fox's franchise.

And while the liberties taken with Thor and Iron Man I have been fine with, Fox's blatant disregard for source material has always bothered me. IMO they have made a convoluted mess, where-as if they had stuck closer to the way things are in the comics we could have had much better movies. But you're talking to somone who is currently studying to become a comic book writer and artist. I've spent my whole life drawing, and obsessing over these characters. Especially Wolverine and Sabretooth.

and just for kicks I thought I might throw in a picture of Allen and Kyle throwing down even though this is a conversation about X-men.

on topic of the xmen first class movie, i loved it. went into it with a terrible attitude because it was so different from the comics, but once i let that go, i loved it. it was a great story, and period piece. magneto stole the show.

i cant really think of any figures id ant from this movie though. maybe emma frost, thats about it.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

While I agree that this was a terrific movie, I also agree about what one of the above posters said. This movie is so inaccurate to the source material that it is hard to even call it X-Men at some points. That, in my opinion, makes it essentially void in the whole super hero movie genre. It's just not fair comparing this to something like Iron Man or Dark Knight, both of which try to capture the heart of their respective series. Most super hero movies would be better if they didn't try so hard to please the hardcore comic fans, but then what's the point? They could have easily renamed the characters in this movie and called the mutants something else and for the most part, it would have been just as good and even more distant from the source material. It is X-Men by name and powers. Nothing more.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

Where are you studying at? I'm going to SCAD for comic books and story boarding.

Awesome stuff man. Right now I'm going to Bridgewater State University. I just recently moved from GA too coincidentily lol. I'm a Computer Simulation and Game Development Transfer. I'll be starting back in the fall, and finally I'll get to become more heavily concentrated on Art. Since I just moved a month ago, I really don't have anything else to show. I got these pictures off of my myspace account. I don't even use myspace anymore, but I knew these pics were still on there lol. I'll get my scanner set up pretty soon, but for right now...I'm not even sure which box it's in.

These are freakin' sweet pieces too! Love the part where Wolverine stops to trim the Bonzai tree. Any tips you can give an aspiring artist for getting in the door with marvel, or shed some light on what it's like?

I've barely just scratched the surfice of my artistic ability. I've been drawing my wholfe life, but I never really thought I was going to be able to go to school for it, so I stopped drawing for a couple years while focusing on programming. But now that I've decided to finally switch gears and go for it, I'm looking forward to absorbing all the knowledge I can. I'm hoping with my experience in simulation and programming I can take on all kinds of contracts and animate, as well as draw comics. My biggest thing is that I feel like I have the talent, and now I just need the structure, because I've always just drawn freehand with no real sense of direction.

As far as X-men: First Class goes...It's good to hear that someone else who didn't think they would like it, due to the huge departure from the comics, actually enjoyed it. Geeze guys...I don't want to, but you're all making me feel like I should check it out. Just tell me one thing...although they screwed the pooch acting like Alex is Scott's older brother...how is their portayal of Havok? He's always been one of my favorite characters. To the extent that I used to read X-factor even when it wasn't that great of a publication.

Please guys, for the love of God, DO NOT STOP! I drew most of my life, from elementary school to about the time I was 20 or 21. At that point I started partying and stopped drawing. I would tell myself that I just needed to pick it up again but even a year or two really, really takes the shine off one's abilities. I found it was like working out, you build muscle and get in good shape but if you stop you loose some of what you had become.

I'm 36, married with a child and I don't have a spare moment to draw, and that honestly kills me... Anyway, not that my words will matter much to any of you but please, don't stop!
