X-Men First Class is rated as a better film than Thor and Captain America on Rotten Tomatoes AND IMDB. Yet people are expecting...

all from the Avengers film alone.

So why will HT make so many of these characters? even doubles?

Probably because they were the only two in the film that were really worth anything. Don't get me wrong it was a great film and I would really like to add to my HT collection but some of them would probably sell as well as the Watchmen or Spirit figures.
I would buy Charles and Eric and hope they make Beast but other than that the line would probably fall flat. If HT made Mystique I would rather have her from X-Men or X2.
With the Avengers figures they can make multi of each figure because they all have different looks for each movie (IM much more than others), and these looks will sell. Plus the Avengers figure have some pretty cool accessories and costumes. What did the XM1C have? Flight suits, a helmet, maybe a wheel chair and a Nazi coin, not really a whole lot to give to a bunch of X-Men. I hope they do make them but I also hope them make figures from the 1st X-Men movies.

Nurse Joker = 10 seconds of screen time. X men origins wolverine = 22 secs screen time. What are the odds of seeing this figure being made. Erm unfortunately none to erm... none

Accessory wise, BW would come with some guns, Azazel would come with some Swords, so about the same.

I'd probably choose Emma Frost. Loved her design, think JJ is beautiful and she could come with some cool accessories like diamond hands.

I probably won't buy any of The Avengers figures. I can't wait for the movie, but me being a pretty big Bats fan and a completionist, I'll stick to my one big line. And gladly collect smaller lines like XMFC over the Many figures of the Avengers.

I think a lot of it has to do with what you like; I would buy another Black Widow figure if she was better than the one I already have. I would also buy an Emma Frost figure if she looked good. My collecting habits are a bit different than others. I'm a comicbook nerd at heart and HT puts out some pretty badass figures but I rarely keep the figure "as is" out of the box. I tweak them a bit and try to get a mix of movie/comicbook so I'm happy. I can honestly say I don't think it matters to HT how many Avengers figs we get vs X-Men figs, if the X-Men sells well then they'll keep making them. Look at the retarded amount of IM figs they made already and there still no sign to the end of that line.
Bottom line for me is if it looks good and I can afford it I'll buy it, I'm just keeping my fingres crossed for a HT Marvel/DC comicbook line.

Oh yeah and I plan on buying all the Marvel based HT figures but I'm still debating if I want to get the 89 Batman line.

Expecting and getting are two different things first off. Second, half of the Avengers would be variant looks for characters established which HT loves with the only real "new" figures being Hawkeye, Hulk and/or Nick Fury.

The thing is that the flightsuits are fairly different from character to character, even Erik's and Charles' suits are different. That means more work for possibly less payoff, the same reason why the Green Lantern alien Lanterns would be fantastic display pieces despite the film but would probably never get done. Also Shaw was a guy in a suit, which HT has said is too boring to do (let's forget that Bruce Lee got one and their Anime line...), White Queen would require either January in lingerie which is fairly meh as a figure or new tooling as a translucent figure, Moira has no shot in hell and then you're left with the students. Banshee and Havok won't pull high numbers for sales, Mystique and Beast maybe but again I think it'll depend on how the figures sell. Azazel would be a cool figure on the shelves but I think the chances are fairly low as he was a cool lackey on screen and not much more than that. Hell Angel would be a neat figure to have but I think her chances are slim.

X:FC was a fantastic film, easily my favorite Marvel film but not even Hasbro supported it or anything really outside of Minimates so that already isn't a good sign for HT to go all in with a ton of figures.

Hot Toys announced the original X-Men Trilogy at the same time as the Spider-Man and Blade Trilogies. I think the only reason we haven't seen any original offerings is because of the focus on First Class. I have a feeling by this time next year we'll have the first couple of figures from FC orderable and teasers for the original trilogy figures. I have a feeling they'll start with X-Men 2 as well....

HT will do a 2 in 1 for Mags and Charles. They will make XFC version and X2 version and walk away. They'll nail two birds with one stone. Thor and Cap either available or specs provided but nothing from XFC or GL and all four are summer films. I think HT will give bare minimum treatment here which is a shame. Great movie with several cool characters for 1:6 toy collectors.

I do think the best version of Wolverine on film is in X2, mainly because of the hair, they nailed it in that film.

Aside from my whining about line completion and my obvious boner for X-Men First Class i would be satisfied with:

Magneto - flightsuit, Metal Helmet and casual outfit
Beast - figure and outift would do.

I'd get the rest; Azazel - with swords, Xavier - flightsuit & casual, Frost, Mystique, Shaw, Banshee, Havok etc..

My dream Magneto would include:

Two head sculpts
Metal Helmet
Flightsuit
Casual (Nazi-hunter) clothes & coin
4 different sized missiles/artillery shells
4 different sized acrylic stands for the missiles to attach to.

Magneto could have a small dio of him stopping the flying missiles, turning them around and so on.
