I had a shield that had the same problem so I took all the paint off too. I like the look of it silver except for the star. I am thinking of repainting it red and white to look like the comic version. I got an extra shield and used a semi gloss on it to help preserve it.

what kind of paint would you guys suggest to repaint the shield? I royaly effed mine up trying out some new finish. I should've tried it on a different surface first I know :slap I was thinking model car paint instead of the usual acrylic..any ideas?

Did you strip off the original chrome?
If not, the acetone trick should work to remove everything up to the chrome.

Cool thanks man :hi5:

I didn't strip anything so I'll definitely give the acetone a trick

I was worried when i first tried it that the chrome would be stripped too, so i went light with the acetone.
But it didn't mark the chrome.
The one thing i will say is that you will want to take brasso metal cleaner to the chrome afterwards and then give it a polish.
I used a cloth buffing head on my dremel at 1000 revs, but you could do it by hand.

From CBM:

"This is Cap's S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform (obviously) but for circumstances unknown (either it getting destroyed or Cap hating it),at some point in the film, Steve breaks into the Smithsonian and steals back his 40's uniform. So for all of us that loved the Johnston suit, Captain America will be back in it by the end of the movie. Sort of takes the sting away from this lameness."

Soooo potential for Hot Toys
to do a 2.0 TFA Cap??

:panic::panic::panic:

We become very nitpicky being collectors. example of what I mean... Whenever someone sees my figures on display their jaw drops in how awesome they are. people who didnt even know these figures existed are floored by them. Lol. Its like getting bored with a hot girlfriend.

My Cap shield has inexplicably started peeling.
There has been no hot/cold problems, and it's been in a Detolf since i got it. The bizarre thing is that the glass around Cap's feet is littered with little clear red flakes that have literally just fallen off on their own.
It *looks* like the same clear red they use to paint the IM suits.
Perhaps it's the issue of the shield being electroplated before painting.
In any case, i took the acetone to the paint today and got rid of it.
My intentions were to repaint it, but i actually like it in chrome. After getting all the paint off, i used brasso and then used my dremel to polish it up.
It's also hard to photograph...
Here are some pics:

That neck joint....

My Cap shield is doing the same thing that other people's are. I hadn't read this thread until too late, didn't realize this was a problem. I hadn't touched it at all, just had it displayed, and went to move it - and saw the paint had chipped off and was cracking in other places. I contacted Sideshow via email.

This makes me wonder what other of the Avengers figures have problems... I just have a new Iron Man Mark VII coming this week, and now I'm wondering if that figure is going to suffer discoloring I've read about on the previous versions, or paint chipping... Honestly, I do hope Hot Toys will stand behind their product, I've read mixed posts here - some people got help, others didn't. I hope they do stand behind their products, maybe it's simply the way in which one approaches them, and persistence?

You mean if someone *****es and moans to them them repeatedly?

Sorry to burst your bubble but I think Howard Chan only cares about the $$$ and no amount of approaches will solve the problem.

I dont know. Some have stayed in the box, others on display the whole time. I live in Ohio where its humid and hot (90's) half the year and dry and cold (single digits) the other half the year.

I've had my Cap figure well over a year and haven't noticed any flakes or chips with my shield, even after dusting it, sucks this is happening to people
