why wouldn't they vac-metal these shields? the worst that would happen is the color rubbing off with extreme handling.

what is the process they use to get the red on them in the first place?

I would think a clear coat spray would halt the process of flaking and deterioration because the paint is sealed in.

Yeah, maybe that's the case since the shield and flaking itself is so minute. I was just thinking in general, if one's painting or restoring something, one doesn't attempt to conceal or stop flaking by painting it over. Maybe the best solution would be to preventatively clear coat the shield a few times when it's still mint, before it even starts to have the slightest cracks.

I haven't even taken my Cap out of his box yet. Sad to hear about so many issues with his shield. I mean, I rather it be his shield that's the problem versus something like his outfit, but still...

If the shield flakes, I'm replacing it with the BD one.

I'm not taking any chances of the flaking. I'm leaving that shield in the box and just going to display the BD version.

Well I am going to take the plunge.

I figured that if its already flaking a little on the edges and if it only going to get worse over time judging from past Cap shields then what have I got to lose.

I have ordered a spare shield to put back in the box incase this goes to crap. I am going to start with a thin coat of Tamiya clear semi-gloss and go from there.

I will keep you updated, ordered the gloss spray can so should have an update in about a week or so.

I'm still waiting for mine from Goodshipped. It has been 2 and a half MONTHS since Cap was released and he still claims he hasn't received his batch from Hot Toys yet.

I don't understand how he's in Hong Kong and doesn't have them yet, but pretty much everyone in the US, nay the world, seems to have theirs by now.

Throughout 2012, I have paid for 4 figures and received NOTHING. So ENRAGED am I that I have forgone any dignity and started ranting about it on this thread. This is what I have been driven to!

I live in the UK and I received mine today from hong kong ebay seller fsjacky2001 which I pre-ordered in August at $223. No customs charges either which I am well happy about.... It was stamped on the package as posted on 5th February so only took 8 days.

I must say I was a little worried as it was a gamble buying off ebay so far in advance. The rest I have on pre-order are from one-sixth-bruce. I probably would use this ebay seller again though now as he came good in the end and didnt have to after this length of time.. he could have easily banked my cash.

Quick look, the figure is great and MILES better head sculpts in-hand than on photos. Star is centred too so well happy..!!
