Thought I'd reshare...

Well if Kenner could manage it over 35 years ago...

And it opens up a universe of possibilities...

No wonder Han was always so grumpy. Leia and Chewie have been hogging the 'head' on the Falcon.

Expected a preview. Did HT announce anything from one of their lines this week?

Re: Where are Hot Toys Luke and Leia?

Han update, surprise production photos of Black Widow. No new announcements though.

What's taking so long on the Leia?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS293-294? - Star Wars Episode IV - 1/6th Luke Skywalker & Leia Organ

I guess HT are trying to spread out announcements to keep interest high on the licence until TFA reveals. Only three weeks before SDCC but more than enough time to squeeze Leia PO in.

Just to be clear, when we were discussing SSC vs HT Star Wars, those pics I posted we repaints except for Old Ben which is stock:

The old SSC figs look like constipated Robot Chicken dollies.

The repaints are awesome QuiGon. As others have said, while a little outdated in today's times and softer, those sculpts are better than anything HT has shown so far and the repaints you have fantastically show that off.

I love that bottom pic of Chewie and Han.

Happy to offer a heart-felt THANKS! to you guys for the kind words Marker and DiFabio (as opposed to the "blow it out your a$$" one I left for JzzGutz above). Agree with your comments, Marker. It's interesting, whether you loved a HT figure or not on roll out in the past, the one thing it seemed that you could always count on was a dead to rights, on the money head sculp from them. Nowadays, it seems pretty hit or miss.

I like the new Luke quite a bit, but I do lose the likeness from a couple of angles (unlike the HT Bespin DX which is a freakin' work of art from any/all angles), and the new HT Han is just a straight wiff at the plate in my eyes. Can't find Harrison at all in that sculpt. Shame because the rest of the figure is fantastic. Not sure who's runing the show over there now, but a return to the glory days would be most welcome...

By the way, I think all three of those SSC figures I posted were Trevor Grove sculpts, so they are just waiting for proper paint apps to get them to take flight. Can't even imagine how they might look of JC Hong got hold of the luke and Han raw sculpts from Trev. Ben, IMHO, is perfect as is...

I wasn't knocking your work QGF, I should've clarified that. :lol

Just a poke at the old figs themselves.

The sculpts weren't more accurate back then, it just seems like they're worse now, because expectations are higher.

I'm not sure where you draw the cut-off in comparing time periods, but HT had some duds back in the day, the Prince of Persia, the original Thor, the Origins Wolverine isn't so great in hindsight, Silk Spectre is iffy, the MMS T2 Terminator is strange, the Iron Man 2 Black Widow catches a lot of flak. Nearly everything pre-MMS83 was not great. . . hindsight isn't that kind to Hot Toys.

It would be fun to take a poll and gauge people's reactions on a 'bad/meh/good' scale. I don't think you'd find any time period in which Hot Toys was unanimously knocking them out of the park

Yeah, that's just so inaccurate it's bizarre...

No, they never had such a period, Tony Stark is an example of that. They've only just nailed him after four or so years. People were more OK with that though because the prices were about $100 lower than they are now.

I appreciate that very much, VDG. No hard feelings!

I think the source sculpts on the SSC line were just as strong as any of the best at HT, but where HT, for the most part, get a lot of love at production time, SSC, not so much. Then, on top of that many of the older SSC suffer from the Buck body making them look that much more toyish. But all the same, the right after market treatment, and the right pose to de-emphasize the limitations of Buck, these guys can shine.

Also, to give credit where it's due, all of my repaints were done by DarkArtist, Josh...

Cheers!

And the irony is. . . read through the thread and you see people commenting about how great the likeness is. https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/...-terminator-2-model-800-spec-hi-res-pics.html.

Seriously, I couldn't find one complaint about the sculpt in the first 200 or so posts of that thread. After that I just stopped looking, haha.

you weren't looking too hard - after 44 posts of mostly speculating about accessories, Wanderer calls out the sculpt.
