I've actually heard that the extended edition manages to be worse than the theatrical cut in the case of Suicide Squad.

That's just wrong. :lol It helps flesh out one of the biggest complaints, the Joker and Harley relationship is almost changed entirely in the EC. I like it a lot.
Leto is superb Joker. Better than anyone so far.

I really like him too. I'm patiently waiting for him to get some more screen-time. as far as "on screen" jokers go, he's the closest we've had to a Joker straight out of the comics.

I haven't seen it yet but again I've read/seen numerous reviews that the film manages to not accomplish much of anything in its extended form. Most seem to agree that most of the added stuff is just fluff that feels like deleted scenes that were obviously deleted for a reason or that it pads out some of the more stupid parts of the film.

Huh? The only thing Leto's Joker manages to be is a pale imitation of Ledger's Joker. Even not just going by how he looks (which truly what an awful design) to his mannerisms come off like he's trying so hard and failing in every way. I don't completely blame Leto because he had a hard act to follow and he's not a bad actor but his Joker sucked hard.

He definitely doesn't feel like the most straight out of the comics version. I'd say in all honesty that while there have been some great Joker performances throughout the years we've yet to really see a definitive take on the character. The closest to matching the comic character is Romero (for Silver Age Joker at least) or Hamill but I know some won't count it because it's animated.

I liked when his Joker was "having fun", like when he was firing the machine gun on the helicopter.
I didn't really care for his more serious stuff, like when he gets mad at Common.

Happy, laughing Joker is best Joker. I hope they keep writing him like that from now on.

Eh, I liked his laugh. It did sound a bit weird when he was laughing on the floor though. His best laugh was during the helicopter scene though, it sounded comical but creepy, which is good.

Romero is a hard act to follow. He's the closest embodiment of the original character, which in turn was inspired by Conrad Veidt's The Man Who Laughs (1928).

Though it was a silent film so he didn't actually laugh. :lol

To me, Romero has always been the creepiest of the live action Jokers.

He definitely embodies the "creepy clown" aspect of the character, which is the closest to the original comics. He's just so nutty.

The film didn't really give Leto anything to do. You could kinda feel some potential there but then they just cut to something else. He along with Affleck really did feel like a cameo. Still, i'm interested in seeing more of this Joker and Harley. As it stand now he isn't even in the conversation with the other's.

Well you should definitely watch it, there's no point in just believing something without forming your own opinion first.

Well, he looks nothing like Ledger's version. No scars, no long hair, no make-up, complete different laugh etc. His mannerisms and lines were delivered with just as much care however. I love "Will you PICK up the PACE!" and the entire new sequence with him and Harley. "ahhh you, you.. you're a pain in the ***."

As far as comic bookness goes, he's the closest we got IMO. We got the classic ACE chemicals origin it seems, a joker with a look that's much closer to how he's drawn in the comics.

I mean, when have we ever seen anything this close to the Joker on the big screen? Never.

And he's still got those classic traits that the joker should have, unpredictability, homicidal, insane, and fun to watch.

Leto is a great Joker. If you can't get over a few tattoos that's your problem IMO, not the character's.

Wait til him and batfleck have more screen time to judge

exactly, he only had 10 minutes of screen-time, and IMO he killed that 10 minutes. he was great. but for those on the edge they should at least wait until he is a major role to the story and not just a certain character (harley) like in Suicide Squad.

the simple truth is, you can't have suicide squad without Harley, (at least in today's world) and you can't explain Harley without Joker. So that's what they did.

I think you have said it well..
I would prefer to be neutral until he has a chance to become a main villain.
It's 10 minutes and he is judged as if he has a full movie appearance..

I plan to. I actually liked aspects of the film just not Leto. I am inclined to believe what I've heard though as the people I've heard it from I regularly watch/read and tend to agree with.

I'm not saying Ledger was a great comic Joker but I liked the interpretation more. At least he didn't come off as some methed out gangster impersonating The Joker. Leto has some of the physical attributes of the character but by and large the look they went with for the character with the ridiculous tattoos and grill killed it. It isn't so much the fact that he has tattoos but the ones he has that are so character specific look dumb. Also that cackle of a laugh he did is awful.

Harley is the one with the origin in the film not Joker. The Burton film handled the origin of Joker and did it better.

Really what did he do that was characteric of The Joker? He kind of looked the part but really he was more or less some insane gangster. He didn't have any crazy plots or anything kind of funny. He basically seemed to be trying to one up Ledger's performance by making his take seem more crazy even down to basically using a very similar voice.

there's only one new scene with joker and one that's extended. the other 10 minutes are focused on HQ/the squad.

well, to each his own. i liked ledgers performance more as well, but we got an entire flick to judge him on that, Leto didn't. i like the tats and grill. it's what a 2016 Joker would look like. he nailed the laugh IMO. very creepy.

that's what i said, go back and read my post. i'm just making the assumption that this is his origin as he takes Harely there. Joker for the most part is there to help show the audience who HQ is.

the joker is an insane gangster. that's what he is. :lol

and like i said, he's used to flesh out Harley's backstory. you can't introduce HQ without mistah J. but, he broke out of arkham, hijacked a heli and tore harley from the squad, and infiltrated a prison. all very joker-y things that are ripped straight from the comics that we have never seen. not too mention the inclusion of the purple lambo and Jonny Frost from Lee Bermejo's "The Joker". (a major influence into Nolan's Joker).

Anything kind of funny? No Joker yet got that absurd and funny costumes for his grunts like Leto. At least for that he deserves credit :)

I didn't find anything about his performance funny. The closest thing was the Lamborghini chase with Batman. He played it off as ultra serious most of the film and the absurd costumes were just that. He looked like a mix between a rockstar posing as The Joker and a methed out gangster. To me that isn't the character in the slightest.

the joker is an insane gangster. that's what he is. :lol
He is but there's something about the Leto version that's off to me. I think it's because he comes off as more of a wannabe gangster thug kind of character whereas The Joker to me is more like a mob type.
