SS might have been a failure for the Critics (what movie isn't these days) but it hit hard with a lot of fans.
Hence why it made 750mil and they announced the sequel, plus 2 spin-off's, we're gonna be getting those HT's.
Except box office and quality have no correlation. You could say the same about the Transformers movies and, while the first one was pretty decent, I've personally never met someone who can even sit all the way through any of the sequels much less actually thinks they are "good." A bad franchise that keeps getting movies because they make money.
On the other end, look at a movie like Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, which grossed over a billion. They just made a sequel that completely flopped because people started to realize with time that the first one really wasn't all that good. The first of the new, mediocre TMNT movies was also a moderate success at the box office, yet the recent sequel tanked as well because a lot of the people that went to see the first one didn't actually enjoy it that much.
So yeah, SS made a lot of money, but will it be a Transformers situation that keeps going in spite of the quality, or will all the people who saw SS once and thought it was terrible just stay home for the sequel?
