I'll probably grab this guy after seeing IW. Long coat, etc.. definitely the best all inclusive Starlord we're gonna get for a good while.

Side note IW Spoilers:

Anyone else kinda bummed about Starlord in IW? I feel like they did him dirty a bit. He makes that pact with Gamora and promises to do whatever it takes to save the universe/etc, including killing her. He even tries to do that... then, later, he gets too upset about her being dead that it's his fault they don't get the glove from Thanos, etc.. he screws it all up. I don't know. It just felt like it directly went against what they established with him and Gamora earlier in the movie.

Exactly what I thought when THAT happened! Still can’t figure it out why...

He's consumed with grief and anger. Logic doesn't factor in. While it was obviously not the smart move it still made sense under the circumstances.

Everything that happens after Dr. Strange have looked into the future and found that there's only one way to win will consist of Starlord screwing up. I guess it's vital that Thanos must snap his fingers with all the stones in order for the Avengers to win in the end. I wouldn't want to explain Starlord's action away. If he didn't screw up, Dr. Strange would most likely make sure someone else screws up
.

Pretty simple reason actually..

He agreed to kill her to prevent Thanos from gaining her knowledge. But if thanos got that knowledge and killed her anyway then for Quill it’s a needless pointless death that doesn’t help the universe but hurts it. If quill had killed her then thanos would have lost making it a horrible but noble sacrifice for the greater good. Instead she’s killed and thanos wins. Pretty easy to see a difference.

Simpler reason is that he loved her and lost it just like any of us would in that situation

Maybe, but as was pointed out it doesn’t go with the narrative they set up. That Quill accepted it needed to be done, and was willing to do it. But he only accepts it because there’s a reason that he believes in. They set up this part when nebula explains that thanos went to a planet with Gamora and came back without her but had the stone. Info she actually couldn’t have known since he went straight to Titan not to the ship she was held at. So the only reason to use that line of dialogue is to make it clear to quill that she died and thanos got what he wanted anyway.

Yeah exactly. I’m more upset at how quickly they died. For most of the characters there’s at least some impact, but with Star-Lord it felt like he just went away, maybe that’s just me though.

One of the main themes of IW is conviction. Having the willpower to do what you feel is right. Thanos is a sociopath but he has the conviction to follow through with what he genuinely believes will save the universe.

Our heroes are going all out to save the universe, but their emotions get in the way because they aren’t sociopaths. They falter. That’s why they lost. Loki can’t let Thor die, Star-Lord hesitates with Gamora, Star-Lord is enraged by her death (understandably), the Avengers try to save Vision instead of just destroying the gem. I’m not counting the time stone for Tony’s life because I believe that’s part of the 1 in 14 million scenario where they win.

I think Star-Lord was written well. His actions were true to his character. He shot Ego the moment after he told him about the tumor.

Regarding Star Lord

I think how he reacted was foreshadowed by what he had said earlier in the movie about being 50% human, and the human part of him is the part that is 100% stupid or something to that effect. In the end, it was his human side that gave in to emotion.

Exactly. Honestly I was impressed with Chris Pratt's performance, he really made me love this character again. (Cause I hated Vol. 2) Star Lord is such an emotional guy. He wears his emotions right on his sleeve. And sometimes he's reckless and undisciplined. When he started imitating Thor, that was such a pure reaction like what a child would do. It makes sense because when he was taken from Earth, he was just a kid. And the way Gamora was used as a plot device was so callous. I just wanted someone to give a **** about what happened. And he did.
