Re: Hot Toys -MMS496- Episode II AOTC Count Dooku Collectible Figure

I’ve been watching a lot of “Hammer Horror” movies since Oct 2018 so Count Dooku is more a opportunity to have a hight end Christopher Lee in my collection. I still have not preordered as I am waiting to see final product. Peter Cushing is an amazing actor. Now that I am exposed to Hammer Horror , Tarkin is merely a guest appearance compared to the depth of acting chops this man has. Highly recommend HH to you folks unfamiliar with that world!!!

Love Hammer Horror! My dad raised me on them. Staying up late on Friday nights, after being at school all week, and watching them on British tv until the early hours of the morning. I still have a Hammer Horror movie marathon on Christmas Eve, every year. You should check out some of Amicus Horror's amazing 60s/70s anthologies if you haven't already, e.g. Asylum, Tales from the Crypt, The Vault of Horror etc.

Looks remarkably different from the prototype. So annoyed as it was near perfect before. I know lighting makes a difference but this feels like they've ironed-out his face.

Feels like Obi EpIV all over again :slap

That’s been Hot Toys problem for the last few years. They try to clean everyone up of their flaws. It’s why, to me at least, while the heads look like fairly good representations of people, they often don’t look like the people they’re supposed to be.

Has a bit of a pre-dye General Zod 1980 vibe.

Re: Hot Toys -MMS496- Episode II AOTC Count Dooku Collectible Figure

If they go on like this more and more people will begin to wait for actual production samples rather than preordering, which will cause less production numbers. They are shooting themselves in the knee. It's no good for anyone, both for business and collectors.
At least, they didn't darken the hair color ;)

Looks like they’re skimping out on the paint apps; skipping a couple steps and/or “saving paint.” Highly agree if this continues PO numbers will drop even further.

I would say he just doesn’t look as angry as he does in the prototype

I’m looking forward to this one still. Not gonna fret over a couple pics under different lighting. There will be plenty of in hand pics soon that will tell the whole story.

Re: Hot Toys -MMS496- Episode II AOTC Count Dooku Collectible Figure

I don’t think comparing the lighting from the new photo to the original one is fair. It seems like the extra shade on the head in the original is giving it the more angry stare. One payment left, I’m not gonna go nuts until he’s in hand.

That's me with Dooku. I never preordered sitting on the fence for the actual production piece. If this is a production piece we are in PHASE ONE which is generally "looks like crap" mode. Lets kick back and wait a few weeks..

Re: Hot Toys -MMS496- Episode II AOTC Count Dooku Collectible Figure

The new pics do make the sculpt look younger... Could it be loss of detail in production?

Re: Hot Toys -MMS496- Episode II AOTC Count Dooku Collectible Figure

Dooku is basically Tarkin with a cape a very simple design. All of it is riding on the head sculpt. I’m not too worried as HT do aged sculpt very well. My concern is however likness.

Re: Hot Toys -MMS496- Episode II AOTC Count Dooku Collectible Figure

Photography plays such a key role in showcasing these figures.

Low quality pictures make the figure look flat.

A great photographer can make these figures look lifelike.

That is always the issue with early shots of production pieces. Yes it will lose a bit of quality over a prototype, but it will still be a magnificent figure in hand.

This looks almost exactly like what happened with Obi-Wan, features were softened. JC Hong said changes were made because of licensor ie Lucasfilm. WTF do they have against eyebrow wrinkles? I really hope this is just a bad pic.

HOT TOYS & Licenor's need to be careful too much softening will end up like this....

Re: Hot Toys -MMS496- Episode II AOTC Count Dooku Collectible Figure

He looks great to me. If this is the “bad photos” phase of this guy, I am not worried at all.

Obi-wan had worse first photos and I love him in hand.

Is there a seam line in the hair?

Re: Hot Toys -MMS496- Episode II AOTC Count Dooku Collectible Figure

Meh, looks fine.
Anyone ever read how b** a** Christopher Lee was during WW2?
