He's a quirky character for sure.
Whether you like how the character was handled at the end, there can be no denying that the general public(in the movie) viewed The Mandarin as worse than Bin Laden. Even Bin Laden wouldn't have attacked Air Force One.

What?? Lmao yes he would have

Sorry.
I wasn't clear. I fixed it.

Oh, that makes more sense. I think he still would have succeeded if he too had the Iron Patriot lol

The point i was trying to make is that even if he keeps repeating that he is only Trev Slattery, the US government is never going to buy it.
Tony and Rhodey know. They might make his case for him.
But he's still a party to what happened on AF1.
And with the main baddie dead, *The Mandarin* will be the one who goes down for 25 consecutive life sentences.
So in the hearts and minds of the public, he would still be the big bad guy.
I doubt he would get away with anything.
So in many respects, he *is* still The Mandarin.

Pass for me. Also...

Killian rocked the hell out of that short sleeve button up with a suit. I usually hate that outfit choice but he made me rethink my fashion faux pas.

The more I think about it, the more irked Im getting about how this character turned out, such a disappointment. They could have done so much with this character, and thought a silly plot twist would be better.

This figure is so damn pointless.

I STILL have not seen it. I've looked at several spoilers, and i'mstill eager to see it. even with the twist.

That said,

Calling it now. in the future of the iron man movies, we're going to see the mandarin revisited. and when they go back, he'll actualy have his rings, and be a completely different actor. Not that I feel kingsly did a bad job. Just, for the story, atleast, they could have someone else take up the mantle.

THEN we could have a REAL Mandarin.

As for the "yellow threat" racisim Bull****. Just make him a Chinese guy bent on world domination, with an obsession with chinese military history. Racist, or not, THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE LIKE THAT.
Perhaps make him a guy from LA, who's a programmer, who gets fired becusae he takes the fall for some bad code. Gets disgruntled, and then gets powers.
Or a taxi driver.
Or a museum Curator.
Or A Math Teacher ( If you want to pander to the sterotype)
Or, how about a Guy in the American Army?
Or just some schlub who's in the wrong place at the wrong time, who has issues.

The method above is simplistic in nature, just to highlight an example. That being, there are LOADS of ways to do this. MANY of tyhem better than what was actualy done already. Time will tell if they give him another shot.

Moving on, I'm Betting we see ultron as the Big bad when we finaly get to Phase 3. Hell, they could have even started it with this film, simply have 5-10 minites somewhere in the film where Tony Stark meets Hank Pym.

There are plenty of ways to update him and make him work. Marvel's already done it. But you can't just make the history of a character go away. It's problematic, not impossible. But for whatever reason, since the very start Marvel seems to have been nervous about it.

This is such a pointless figure. I really hope they make Pepper since she's in the film a lot more and has action.

Here's the part I don't really understand about the Mandarin...

if Killian's the mastermind behind, why would Slattery need bodyguards to take him to Killian's house, dressed up with a cloak and looking as if he indeed is the "master"? Is he required to keep up the playacting even in front of the person who hired him (Killian) even when no one is around? Slattery certainly was acting as the real Mandarin and big boss in that instance, while Killian was just a partner in crime/pawn.

Because of that, I thought that the Mandarin twist was done very poorly, and have a feeling that it may have been something added later on while they were in e filming process maybe..

I took it as him having to keep up the act for everyone in the organization. Killian is using the Mandarin as the figurehead for the whole operation, even for those internally. He's the cause around which they are rallying. Is there a point at which Killian and Mandarin are alone in a room? I know there was the big setting up his latest video, but I assumed he was surrounded by the crew ready to make that happen?

WHAT IF??? what if in the avengers 2, the mandarin teams up with thanos and some other villains against earth? and what if it's revealed at that time that the mandarin that was captured was indeed a double for the real mandarin??? tony and rhodey simply walked into the scene where the actor was the only mandarin present. remember deflection of exactly who is the bad guy allows the villain to pull the strings of the puppet from behind the scenes. and the real mandarin can be played by...ben kingsley. ingenious if you ask me. then everyone will wish they didn't pass on this one!!!! LOL
