Hot Toys Predator: Jungle Hunter 2.0

Does the city hunter have any glaring issues that warrants an immediate 2.0?

You mean 3.0, but 100% yes that we need an immediate 3.0! The most obvious problem is the version 2.0's absolutely inaccurate head and bio mask. The version 1.0's head sculpt is quite accurate but the cartoony eyes look ridiculous, the inner mouth is too small, and the dreads stick out too much to the sides. Two other things that bother me about the 2.0 figure are the plasma cannon and wrist gauntlet. The plasma cannon on the figure is too small and flat, and I don't know why they added some ridiculous-looking long flat stick for maneuvering the plasma cannon. As for the wrist gauntlet, the blades are too curved.

In addition to Draqkerrr's post outlining the inaccuracies of the headsculpt, HT also for some reason dipped City Hunter's armour in poop. Just brown all over, completely ignored the various gold, bronze and copper present on the armour.

I actually don't mind the poopy-color armor I mean, I couldn't even really tell that his armor had gold, bronze, and copper hits to it since the scenes in the movie are quite dark. I have taylerdurdem's Hot Toys City Hunter mask but I think it's the older version so the paintjob is a lighter brown compared to his poopy-colored armor. I do wish I had the later version though to match his armor better.

Problem with Hot Toys is you just don't know if they're making a new figure because they see this room for improvement - i.e they have a sculptor who recognizes the inaccuracies - or if they're just making a new figure to keep the license and block competitors - they assign a competent sculptor but not one with any particular passion for the license - and we end up with just another one step forward two steps back figure like the 2.0 was.

Were issues (poop colour armor, canon and wrist blades) with the 2.0 noticeable prior to its release or did we always think it looked amazing until after it released where we went "actually this looks bad".

If a 3.0 is announced fixing all those issues, something else could be the problem until we have it in hand.

Collectors were vocal about the unmasked head, helmet, and cannon from the start. I remember being excited about the new paintjob since it was such an improvement over the 1.0, but puzzled as to why the head was downgraded.

People also called out the armor texture for being too rough and, oddly enough, that's the one thing Hot Toys fixed on the final product. Don't remember reading much about the blades or color at the time though. There were too many other egregious issues that jumped out, those criticisms may have come later.

Yeah the lighting makes it difficult but you can see the colour of his armour in the med kit bathroom scene. When it opens it up, it lights up his gauntlets quite well and you can see they're a bronze colour. You can also get a sense of the tones of the rest of his armour too but it's not as well lit.
It's a shame you don't get to see the armour colours very well. You see how beautifully it's painted in the BTS shots.

What I'm hoping for in this release (but realistically know HT will likely **** the bed on) is something close to mimicking the Prime 1 1:3 in terms of sculpt and body proportions.
THREE separate sculpts,
x1 Sculpt with screen accurate bio mask (maybe make the exclusive with a swap out Gort mask)
x1 Sculpt with screen accurate Unmasked portrait with closed mandibles
x1 Sculpt with screen accurate Unmasked portrait with open mandibles.
(Would even be fine with them dropping the Gort mask as the exclusive and making the closed mandibles the EX, IDC just want it either way)

A PVC Style Torso and arms. Much like the material from their VENOM or CARNAGE figures. Torso and Elbows NEED RATCHET joints. For strong hunched over poses etc.
Body needs to be scaled correctly.

Legs I'm fine with visible or slightly visible double jointed knees to get in deep crouching poses like the original 87 JH HT figure.

We have already seen the diorama base, and while I like it (especially with the Dutch trap) It really does need to be wider so the figure can actually be displayed on it versus just barely fitting both feet on.

Armor paint apps need to be toned down some. Not so green.

Could live with or without Billy's spine accessory. Pretty much know the blades will be plastic now instead of diecast (since that seems to be a cost cutting measure HT has become fond of) which is unfortunate.

Minor imperfections in the armor I can live with. Inaccurate sculpt and dwarfed body I can not.

This will be such an important release for HT because if they do even half of what was just mentioned, that could be enough fuel to revisit iconic pred's from other movies and Im sure other people would agree that even with a whole collection of 2.0's I would continue to buy the new releases. Praying for a minimum of three separate head sculpts

Yup, another reason why HT should get the scale correct this time. people will have to rebuy them all AGAIN!

I feel like I’m going to be spending a lot of money this year on figures so many things I want. I’ll definitely grab two of the Jungle Hunter, the Inart Reeve superman with Clark Kent, Inart BVS Batman, the Morfig Batman from Arkham Knight and possibly pick up the Enterbay Ghostbusters 4 pack. All this while still having to pay off my Hot Toys Xeno, Inart Cavil Superman and MT Toys Agent 47. Mind you I’m trying to buy an apartment this year too and god knows what else Inart or Hot Toys has in the pipeline that isn’t revealed yet. Please pray for me and my wallet

100% mate! I already have the deposit set so I should be fine and I also put some money into my Sugo Toys account for emergency figures I need to buy like this Jungle Hunter. Appreciate the honesty though as the apartment comes first for sure!
